I am always keen to view (and review) reference material, so a peek at this piqued my interest.
Though it seems to have a very ethnic bias (typical of today's Culturally Sensitive environment), there is no political bias in it, making it a great educational resource.
It's ease of use, and uncluttered layout make it highly suitable as an educational reference manual for young children, right through to adults. Plenty of pictures helps the kids too, giving easily understood context to the written articles.
The timely entries reflecting the current state of New Zealand clearly gives up-to-the-minute information... with one small and saddening error. The error was NOT an error at time of creation, but the listing under New Zealand Heroes for Janet Frame lacks her year of death... less than a month prior to the release of this publication.
Overall... an excellent addition to the home library of any parent wanting to provide informational resources to their children, knowing it to be safe from the hazards of the Internet. Though all the same information is 'out there on line' this book won't pop up porn banners, won't make you dial Afghanistan, or any such other hazard.
