Well, this is a definite improvement, I must say. Gone is Grandad, with his language barrier. This time I was greeted by a lovely young lady, with her son on hip. Cute kid, not much of a smiler though.

Harking back to my previous encounter, I avoided the F'n'C standard, and opted instead for a Gourmet Burger. After much deliberation, my eye was continuously drawn back to the mexican burger, with beef pattie, tangy salsa and sour cream, with tomato sauce and something in between coleslaw and salad.

Requesting extra cheese, and a couple of deep-fried sausages, plus a pottle of tartare sauce, I sat and watched The Simpson on the TV while the food was prepared. In reasonable time, they handed me a bag with all the food, and bid me a cheerful farewell.

Got to my destination, and plonked a burger and a sausage in front of my mate, and one of each for me of course and we tucked in.

YUM! Though the burger was nothing spectacular, it was flavoursome, and had a really nice spicy tang to it. The cheese was a good addition I think, as it added a bit of extra bulk. I basically hadn't eaten anything all day, so I inhaled my burger and sausage, and since my buddy was bloated on just his berger, I snarfed his snaggler too. (They were really nice dipped in tartare sauce.)

Overall, would have to say I was suitably impressed to give a much better score this time around, and will probably go back to try some of the other burgers that attracted attention prior to ordering. The location still sucks, but on a quiet night, when there are few cars parked in there, it's a lot easier to pull in and make a reverse parking so that exit into traffic is far easier and safer.

I walked in with a hunger well in excess of my budget, so I was looking for a good deal. I saw something that appealed. The $7.00 Family Pack looked quite good, with 3 pieces of fish, a scoop of chips and 2 hotdogs. Didn't take long to cook, so I was on my way shortly, headed off to a friend's place for a feed and a good movie.

I arrive, and we unwrapped the food. Smelled good, so a slather of good ol' Wattie's Tomato Sauce and off we went. The chips were first. Salty, overcooked, and I think the oil hadn't been changed in a while, because the chips looked almost burnt, but weren't fully cooked! (A typical symptom of overused cooking oil.)

The hotdogs were next, and had suffered the same fate as the chips... not at all appealing, but better than the chips, even with them being drowned in sauce.

Lastly the fish. This was, by all means, the lowlight of the meal. The fish itself was thin and just heaped in batter... which had a wierd and unpleasant aftertaste... sortof salty flour taste. Not at all a good feed.

It was, in fact, probably the worst takeaway food I have eaten in a while. However, it was but a small part of their menu, and I will probably try a burger or some chinese food from there again, but sure as Nelly starts with an N, I won't be eating any of their Deep Fried's again!

It was also made worse by the horrible location, on a main road and there is sod-all parking. And when it's time to leave, I had to pull a 4-point turn just to get out! The guy who took my order seemed to have trouble understanding basic questions about what the food was composed of, ie. "What are Garlic Chips? Do they have Garlic Salt or Garlic Butter?" "Huh?" was the eloquent response.

Overall: Not really looking forward to a repeat visit, but I feel I should give the rest of their menu a fair trial. Stay tuned...

3 pieces of fish, a scoop of chips and 2 hotdogs. I looked at what was lying on the table in front of me and thought 'I know I'm sharing this food, but how the smeg am I gonna eat even half of this?' The answer was simple: I didn't.

Having recently had dental-work done, I was feeling a slight sense of trepidation at biting into the hotdog I picked up first off. The batter was VERY crispy and SHARP! I was kinda thankful there was the fish and chips also, right up until I tried them. The chips didnt worry me much, salt-wise, as I tend to use quite alot of salt in my daily diet anyways, the fish was greasy (even out of the batter), and I'm almost positive that it had a kinda metallic-type back-taste to it.

There's not alot I can add, to review this product, except to agree with the previous reviewers' summation of the food. Since I didn't go into the store, I have no knowledge of the staff or the location.

All-in-all, really very non-impressed with their fried food offered, but am curious (and a little fearful) as to whether the other items on the menu are as bad.

Product image for Pa Hill Quince JellyWe use a recipe from Nana's book, 80 years ago. Whole fruit made into paste and 30% less sugar. Using Nana's method, all by hand, "big Job"! Goes nice with cheese or a Roast pork.

All of our jams are taken from recipe books dated back early 1900s. You can't beat Grandma's original recipes and methods but we do try to cut out as much sugar as possible but its hard to get to setting point so unfortunately its back to ... more...
