When life hands you lemons but Fizzliss has made a drink this sweet, what is there really to be sour about?
Old Fashioned Lemonade - just like you made it back in the day (but with booze, so it's better).
Sorry old mate fizz, if there's no bubbles, there's no troubles.

Product reviews...
Usually my go-to alcoholic beverage is always something sweet, and usually it will be bubbly or carbonated, however recently I have been trying to steer away from drinking too many of this type of drink. When I saw that there had been a range of alcoholic drinks that were free from the carbonation, I was exceptionally keen to give them a go, to hopefully have an alternative from my normal. I decided that the Old-Fashioned Lemonade + Vodka one sounded like it would be right in my direction, so requested, and was lucky enough to receive one.
Firstly, the packaging is really nice and simple, the choice of the light background means that the company name and the flavour stand out unmistakably, also the 5% ABV and the size of 330ml, with across the top the vibrant yellow with contrasting green leaves signifying the lemon flavour. This product is proudly made in New Zealand with only 0.1% sugar, so this already makes this a healthier alternative than my current choice of drink.
Upon opening the can there is a noticeable sweet, lemon scent when I take a sniff, when I poured the liquid into the glass it was your typical old-fashioned lemonade colour, with minimal bubbles appearing. I took a sip and I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but I think my tastebuds are so used to sweet drinks that I found this quite dry, however I continued to drink, and the taste grew on me. The lemon and vodka team nicely together with not one flavour overpowering the other, and I enjoyed the fact that because there were no bubbles, I didn't end up all gassy and needing to burp while drinking.
I think these make a good option for a healthier drink, and I believe that they are reasonably priced, I will be keeping my eyes open for them next time I go to the liquor store.
I'm not big on Alcoholic soft drinks as my go-to drinks are beers but every now and then it is refreshing to change it up and try what other options are available and this one was a delight to taste. Fizzliss Old fashioned lemonade vodka is in a 330 ml can and consists of still water, Vodka, lemon juice concentrate (0.6%), natural flavours, sodium citrate, and sucralose. I really like the can design as being simple with the brand and flavour front and centre on a white can and then the lemon design above as it really depicts and portrays the simplicity of what a good old-fashioned lemonade should be and that is simple yet enticing. On the rear of the can it has the nutritional information and the social media tags for Instagram and Facebook for Fizzlissnz.
This drink sits at a 5% ABV and as soon as you taste it there is a strong note of the strength there but it is balanced out nicely with the lemon flavour that smooths the taste out. The drink contains 0.1% sugar but still maintains and nice sweet taste that accompanies the tart citrus flavour from the lemon very well. The drink contains only 102 calories so it is very manageable to fit into your intake if you are a calorie counter type of person which I am not in the slightest so it means little to me but could mean the world to others.
I recommend this drink if you are wanting to try out something very refreshing that tastes very nice plus at $30 dollars for a 10-pack it narrows down to $3 a drink which is very affordable and competitive for these drinks. It's not something I would have all the time when drinking as stated I'm more into beers but this could easily be someone's go-to drink and on a hot afternoon these would be very fitting and that won't be very far away so it is a good time to stock up.
I remember being a teenager when alcoholic lemonade first came out in the UK. They were tasty, thirst-quenching drinks that I really enjoyed drinking. Having lived in New Zealand for over 20 years, I don't recall seeing any alcoholic lemonade for sale in New Zealand so I was quite excited to try Fizzliss Old Fashioned Lemonade and Vodka. The can itself is attractive and would be noticeable on the shelf.
When I poured the drink I wasn't expecting any bubbles as I'd discovered that the Fizzliss definitely held true when pouring the Passionfruit, Pineapple, and Vodka flavour previously. I wasn't disappointed! There were a few token bubbles but I wouldn't class this as a fizzy drink. It had a lemony scent that wasn't overpowering and I found the drink to be quite dry with just the right amount of lemon flavour. Usually, I prefer sweeter alcoholic drinks like flavoured cider, but I really enjoyed this drink. My hubby had a try and he loved it saying it was much better than the Passionfruit, Pineapple, and Vodaka he had tried previously.
With 102 calories and only 0.1% sugar, these really are quite healthy! A can equates to 1.3 standard drinks and I found that with 5% alc/vol, you could feel the effects of the vodka (although I hadn't eaten anything for a while when I drank it). At $3 a can, I thought these were really good value and didn't taste like a cheap RTD. Once poured in a glass you wouldn't believe that it was a RTD, more like a quality vodka drink.
This is my second experience with Vodka, the first being the other night when I tried the Pineapple and Passionfruit. What I have worked out is that it has a heat behind it and it makes a drink feel heavy. I was rather thirsty when I opened it and instead of sipping it I took a couple of big mouthfuls before I remembered what I was drinking and that explained the heat going down my throat. It was about this time that I also realised there was no fizz.
My husband eagerly tired and it was love. He said he could easily drink this on his own, actually his exact words were I could drink a bunch of this. It is clearly alcoholic but not in a way that slows down drinking. You could easily get caught out with this particular flavour.
I tend to agree it is an easy drink to drink. The lemonade reminds me of old school home made lemonade without the fizz. It is very smooth going down. The Vodka, besides the heat does not detract from the drink and even I did not have a problem drinking it. Can not say it is my favourite drink in the world but it is one that I could see myself drinking if it was on offer. I definitely preferred this flavour of the two that I have tried.
Home-made lemonade can be one of two things. It is the sour, grimace-causing whole lemon drink of my childhood (thanks, Auntie!) complete with floating pips and bits of pulp which you had to spit out before they choked you, or it is an aggressive acid-laden drink that is more sugar than lemon and is so strong it gives you heartburn. This drink from Fizzliss is neither; old-fashioned it may be insofar as it is made from natural ingredients and is almost totally free of sugar, but it has the right balance of flavour without the floaties. Add vodka and it suddenly becomes a drink for grown-ups rather than children.
I shared a can with my partner; I could have managed the lot without assistance, but I wanted to get another person's feedback. And I am glad I did because we had totally different reactions. My partner could not taste the vodka at all, commenting that it would be easy to drink too much because the drink had such a pleasant, low-key flavour. I had not thought of that, but in retrospect I agree. It is good that it is packaged in cans rather than in a bottle because it would be so easy to drink it too fast on a hot day. Given that the can contains the equivalent of 1.3 standard drinks, it would be easy to overindulge (and it would then be my luck to get breathalysed).
We found the absence of the anticipated "fizz" unexpected but rather pleasant once we got used to it. I think people are programmed to expect the mini explosion you get when opening an RTD, and then get sidelined by the initial burst of bubbles in their mouth. There is no fizz to mask the lemon flavour; rather, there is a smooth slickness that is sweet and very tasty. We drank our tin chilled, but it would be just as palatable served warm in my opinion. On this occasion we had it with crackers and a hummus topping, but it is such a gentle drink that it could also go well with a meal in place of the usual wine. Not being a particular fan of wine, I would enjoy it this way.
We liked the stylish can with the bold lemon graphic around the top quarter. The rest of the can is uncluttered, with the product name on one side and full information on the other, all on a white background. It is incredibly easy to read so you know exactly what you are getting - I have compromised eyesight and sometimes find nutrition information difficult to read, but on this can even the smallest print was legible. It would certainly stand out on a shop shelf.
