Noctiluca product reviews

On the warmest nights of the year, the quiet waters are filled with shimmering lights as the dormant Noctiluca awaken. Renowned for their restorative properties, The Noctiluca are desired by Healers from around the world. However, only the most-skilled divers can brave the waters to collect and deliver these glowing creatures. You must plan your path carefully before diving into the water. Can you catch the mysterious embers of the sea?

After missing out on a second-hand copy, I was pleased to find this restocked at one of my go-to game shops and quickly nabbed a copy before it ran out. In Noctiluca you have a large array of dice in different colours, each die is rolled and placed on the board (four in each space on the inner ring, five in each space on the outer ring). Each player gains a character card, which they can't look at until game's end but that will gain them bonus points and then selects two jar cards. You then place your meeple on one of the spots on the outside of the board and state which number in that row that you want, grabbing all of the number. However, you then place them on your jar cards according to colour - leftovers are offered to the other players.

The game is simple enough to pick up quickly, it can just get a little frustrating when you get near the end and there are limited choices for dice that you need. The aim is to fill as many jars as you can, gaining bonus tokens along the way and some of the cards will also gain you bonus points. I enjoy this game, it is simple enough to fill in the time but strategic enough in figuring out where the best place to put your meeple is, to collect the most dice that you can. The dice are nice and colourful and add a nice feel of colourful fireflies at the lake. I'm glad I scooped up a copy when I did and am sure I will be holding onto this for a while.
