Liked the package, easy to open and reseal. These are quite rich so there is a real need for the package to be resealable with ease. I like the rich colours on the packaging which made it feel like a real treat and a bonus is that the packet stands up nicely in the fridge. In fact, for me, these would last a fair while so they are really good value too. As you can see from the photo I am not a nice tidy scissor-opening person so being able to rip into the packet and then slot it into the fridge was a bonus and makes them a nice fast snack. Well done on not needing to decant into another holder NOM.
So onto the flavour, these were sweet but not cloying for me and a nice chilled down snack to have with a coffee at morning tea. I would love to offer these to guests as they were a simple taste for a few to replace a muffin or a small chocolate bar. I am guessing if you are not a coffee person and more of a chocolate person they may not hit the spot but I loved them and will be getting them in for book club as an alternative sweet treat with our coffees.
I didn't go overboard in the checking of how healthy these were as I think upping my intake of almonds is a good thing and the chocolate was not excessive. I have really enjoyed the quality taste of the NOM products and will be looking out for them in the future as they have not disappointed me at all. I have to admit I prefer the raspberry version but that is personal taste and others definitely preferred this mocha variety as they were a more subtle taste. I really liked that I could have several packets nicely tucked into the fridge for late-night snack attacks too
We both love coffee and what better way to enjoy it than to add coffee flavouring to your food? We decided the best way to sample this product was to keep it for ourselves. Usually I share review foods with family and friends, but this time we wanted to try it in several ways so thought it might be better to do it all without assistance. I am not a fan of too much chocolate on its own, but when it is mixed with coffee or chilli it takes on a new and much more interesting aspect so I was looking forward to seeing what Nom had done in this instance.
We started off having some with drinks after our evening meal. I had a bottle of coconut liqueur so we served the nuts just as they were, straight from the packet. The coconut was sweeter than the nuts, which surprised me, but it was a winning combination. Later that same evening we had more nuts, this time with ginger beer, and found that worked just as well. The nuts are quite creamy when you first bite into them, but the centre is quite dry so it is sensible to have them with a drink.
The coffee flavour did not kick in straight away. Our first impression, one we both agreed on, was that they were unassuming and more chocolatey than anything else. But once we bit down into the nut centre, the coffee kicked in and took over. Espresso coffee drinks are often like that - the flavour takes a little while to release, then suddenly it hits you. We have yet to try them with a cup of coffee, so that is a pleasure we are still looking forward to.
The packet looks quite festive; it would not be out of place in a Christmas stocking for an adult or even for a teenager. The resealable ziplock packet opening means that they do not all need to be eaten at once, although knowing our family it is unlikely that they would last very long. My partner also thought they would be a good snack to take to the movies; cinemas are air-conditioned in the summer so the chocolate would not be in danger of melting.
I noticed that there was a small amount of chocolate dusting left in the packet after we had used up all the nuts. I upended the packet over a dish of ice-cream and scored a bonus - the dusting looked very pretty on top of the white ice-cream. There was not enough to add flavour, but the appearance alone was most attractive. Unfortunately the packet is empty so any more experiments will have to wait until I can get another one.
If you haven't tried these then I suggest you rush out and go get some, espcailly if you like mocha flavours. The mix of chocolate and coffee is spot on and just super tasty. My partner and I snuck these when no one was looking and oh my they were goood. My mum knows I have snacks to review and she kept sniffing around waiting for them to be open to dig in. I knew she would enjoy these as she drinks about 5 coffess a day. I told her to come try and she wanted the bag to herself.
I love the re sealable bag, so handy to be able to close the bag up again and save some for later. These for the price are such a treat and would suggest you keep a bag in the pantry at all times, and one in each flavour as they are all so good. The price is good value for money, and you get lots in the bag, its a win win deal.
I wonder what these would taste like in some muffins, like add a couple into the middle of a muffin and as its baking the choclate mocha flavour would melt into the muffin and make it so tasty but also having the almond to bite into would be a real treat as well. These are just fabulous and I can't say this enough, if you haven't yet, go buy some as you will not regret it.
Nom is on to something good here for sure, They take almonds then roast them to be crunchy then double dip them in creamy milk chocolate, and dust it with a Coffee powder over the top. The packaging is color-coordinated with its velvety brown look suiting coffee and chocolate very well. I tore open the bag and peeled the resealable lip to be met with a creamy coffee aroma with a subtle chocolate smell also giving me the impression of a mocha coffee which is my go-to hot drink of choice so I was very pleased. I removed a couple of the almonds and chucked them into my mouth, the first thing that hits is the coffee dusting flavor then the softness of the chocolate, and then a lovely crunch from the almond.
The creamy chocolate flavor lingers the longest and it is smooth and rich which is welcoming. My only gripe I have with these is I'm not a big fan of the thick layer of chocolate but this is just my personal opinion and I prefer the lightly coated almonds much more so if you like more of a coating then these will be perfect for you. The price of $7.00 per 160g bag is reasonable for what you get and the coating is very generous for these.
I recommend these if you like to snack on sweet and savory snacks and want something easy to pack and light to eat. They would be perfect for walks and picnics if you can keep them cool and the kids love them as the coffee flavor isn't dominant and doesn't linger long at all. Personally, I will stick to the skinny dipped almonds just because they are more simplistic and not as sweet but you may like these ones more so give them a shot.
Almonds, double dipped chocolate, and coffee dusting, well sign me up!! I saw these come up for review and thought they sounded absolutely delicious, and spoiler alert - I was not disappointed!! These lovely treats come in a handy resealable bag, so you do not have to eat them all at once, nor have to find another container to put them in for storage.
Chocolate coated almonds are not new, but Nom have changed it up a bit by double dipping, and not in the bad way - first in white chocolate and then milky creamy chocolate before dusting them in expresso ''dust'' to create the chocolate coffee mocha flavour. They really got a good balance of all the layers, with them all working really well together - and none of the flavours getting lost. The mocha / coffee is not too strong either - all three of my children tried them and none of them mentioned a coffee type taste - though I clearly could, being a lover of the stuff! They are a really interesting texture with the dusting, but it dies not come off or make your fingers messy - which I initially thought it might.
Nutritionally these are meant to be a treat, and, no surprise, being double dipped in chocolate they are high in sugar , but are low in salt / sodium. They are also not super moreish, meaning I did not feel that need to eat the whole lot for a change!
I would buy these again, but as they are quite pricey, they would be a treat or a gift rather than a weekly or even fortnightly purchase. They are quite different though and that is what I liked - unique, tasty, not too moreish and a great wee treat!
