Helen and the Go-Go Ninjas product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsKidnapped by time-travelling ninjas, Helen is thrust into the year 2355 - a ruined future with roving gangs and 'Peace Balls', giant humming devices that enslave and control people's minds.

The Go-Go Ninjas have one goal -to destroy the Peace Balls. They believe that Helen knows how.

Can Helen use her knowledge of the past to help them save the future?

An electrifying graphic novel by award-winning authors.

Helen and the Go-Go Ninjas is a book that I have tidied up on the shelf several times over the past year, but it wasn't until recently when I had to sticker and price twenty or so of them, that I finally paid it some proper attention and got it down to read. It's very fast paced and filled with both pros and cons that leave me unsure if I would recommend it or not. It is set in New Zealand, Auckland by the very obvious Sky World and Helen appears to be Maori, a nice change from a white hero saving the day. There is a bit of time travel going on, they manage to avoid any paradoxes but I would have liked some little mention on how they were able to bring back the information that parachutes were required.

I love that Helen is running around in a tank top and pants, none of the women are half dressed to look sexy and attractive while trying to survive but I felt like they then took a big step back by having a large amount of women as mindless slaves to the men who come now and then to claim the food they've gathered and impregnate them... it's a well worn trope in post apocalyptic worlds that I'm getting a little tired of. And there's also the bad guy, who's really a good guy at heart character... Other than those issues, this was a decent graphic novel for teens and older.

Product reviews for listing 2784: Shaolin Burning
Written by Ant Sang

Product image for Shaolin BurningOld China like you've never seen before. Shaolin Burning is an exciting, modern take on Kung-Fu mythology: a fusion of punked-up street culture and chinese tradition.

When the Shaolin Temple is destroyed by the Emperor's army, only five monks managed to escape alive. Or so the legend says. But few know the story of the sixth, Monk Who Doubts, who turns his back on the Buddhist path and embarks on a bloody trail of ... more...
