3 words could complete this review - OH MY GOD, but then that would not really be a review now would it?

Barkers is one of my favourite brands, and with good reason. Their products are always packed with flavour without ever over doing it, and I just love so many of their goodies, you can't go wrong. However, I remember seeing this product on the shelf and being a slight caramelholic (my new word for the day), I just HAD to have it, so into the trolley it went. For me, the price was good for what I was expecting to savour.

That night after dinner, I was craving something sweet and one of the kids suggested ice cream (another favourite of mine) and I was quick to agree. Not only was ice cream on the menu but I could try out my newest flavour treat. Seems win/win right? The ice cream was dished out and I opened the bottle. Instantly the aroma just made me want to eat the topping, right there and then, bugger the ice cream. Wait...did I just say that? But, I used self-control, and poured some onto everyone's ice cream so they could all give it a go.

WOW WOW WOW Seriously this is just amazing. If you like butterscotch or caramel, you are going to love this. It's sweet and delicious wthout being sickly like many caramels can be. It had a consistency that was thick and it could hold its own, rather than being runny and lacking that fullness of what I deem a sauce to be. I love this product and have bought it several times since that first purchase along with its fruity friends that sit next to it on the shelf.

Unfortunately it never lasts long enough for me to try and create a masterpiece using it because it really is THAT good on so many things (including a spoon but shhh that's our secret)

I had been intrigued to try this product as I had heard that it was a lot sweeter than the other sauces in this range, but when I tasted it, I found that it was pleasantly flavoured with a strong butterscotch aftertaste. It reminded me of Russian fudge, but my daughter thought the caramel was overshadowed by the butterscotch - and she pointed out that the label said it was Butterscotch Caramel, not the other way round, so I guess she was right!

I prefer a fruit based sauce to one that is essentially sugar in various forms, but the children thought otherwise and assured me that it was a sauce so would be only a small part of a serving. They were right, of course - none of us was going to eat the sauce on its own (although Miss Seven said she could probably do just that!) We talked about ways that we could use it and thought it would go well as a topping for steamed puddings and baked desserts like apple crumble, but finally went to Kate's Great Dates.

I need to explain that choice! Sticky date pudding is one of the obvious choices for a caramel based topping, but there is one drawback. The children do not like dates, so it was necessary to come up with an alternative. Disguising a food as something else is not new; every parent knows how to add grated vegetables to mincemeat before cooking it, or hide grated cheese in mashed potatoes to increase the protein content. The Great Dates variation is made by using a regular sticky date pudding recipe, but mincing the dates and mixing them with wholemeal flour. This mixture is then added to the rest of the ingredients (with the white flour content halved to allow for the wholemeal component) and baked. The children are happy as they think they are eating a brownie, and the adults are happy because dates are good for them!

As soon as the Great Dates came out of the oven, we warmed some sauce and drizzled it over the top. Warming it was a good idea as it made the sauce thinner and it spread easily. Not only did it look good, it tasted superb - and both children returned for seconds. We all enjoyed the sauce this way; and, as Mr Nine had pointed out, we did not actually need very much.

There was about half a bottle left so we put it in the fridge until my next visit. I made some pancakes for lunch: the sauce was equally delicious served cold, topped with a blob of whipped cream. Because we did not warm the sauce this time, it was thicker and stayed in the middle so we could roll our pancakes up. The cream oozed out the end but that was all good; the taste was perfect. I preferred the sauce with the pancakes, but the others liked the Great Dates combination better. I will probably go for one of the Barker's fruit ranges when I am shopping, but I can see that my daughter will be going for the butterscotch caramel again as it is a winner with the children.

I love all things caramel so was excited to try Barkers Butterscotch Caramel Sauce. It comes in a clear glass bottle so you can easily see the smooth caramel coloured sauce. The label gives you some inspiration for uses such as butterscotch date pudding, pancakes and milkshake syrup. The smell of the sauce is divine and the only thing better than smelling it is eating it! It has the perfect pouring consistency in that it's not too runny and not too thick. I poured some on a spoon and got the whole family to sample and their reactions told me we had a winner, especially as hubby, who is usually a savoury person, requested more.

I took the sauce, a chocolate brownie and some ice-cream round to friends and the sauce was a huge hit. One guest was using so much I had to discreetly put the bottle away to ensure I had some left! I also made some cupcakes and drizzled the sauce on top before mixing it in with a toothpick and the results were amazing. The cupcakes had a lovely caramel flavour and a nice crispy caramel base. This sauce was also amazing drizzled over ice-cream and on top of brownies. In fact, it's so versatile you could transform any dessert with this sauce!

Barkers are consistently producing top quality sauces and this is no exception. This should be a pantry staple for every household!

The bulk of the sauce or dressing-type condiments I buy are from Barkers; Balsamic Mint Sauce, Onion Marmalade, Apple Sauce, BBQ Jerk Sauce are only a few of their products I buy regularly or currently have in my fridge or cupboard ready to use.

Firstly I must admit that my husband and youngest daughter are the caramel loving people in our family, I typically go for a berry or chocolate flavour when I have a choice, but in saying that, I am partial to a Sticky Date pudding with a Sticky toffee sauce with vanilla ice cream on the side....mmmm. So the option to sample and review Barkers new dessert Butterscotch Caramel Sauce and make my version of Sticky Date pudding was an exciting prospect.

Again, Barkers have some fantastic artwork and sauce use ideas on the label which gives the customers ideas to use their products in various ways. I opened the bottle (the lid, as always, popped off easily) and inhaled the smell of the sauce, Barkers really hit the mark, the butterscotch smell was perfect and immediately made me cast my mind back to when my Grandad and I used to share a bag of Werther's Butter Caramel's together when I was about five, soooo good.

My youngest daughter was super keen to taste it (I knew she will be) so we had a teaspoon each, she just loved it and wanted more and more, I liked it but not being a natural go-to caramel girl would not be my first choice over berry or chocolate, but I did appreciate the smoothness and the butterscotch of the caramel. My daughter then decided she would make a Sticky Date pudding and found a great recipe on the Chelsea Sugar webpage, she rustled in up in no time and she slathered all the Butterscotch Caramel sauce over the top, the whole family tucked into the pudding and the unanimous decision was totally yum!

We have over half a bottle left and the children intend to use it on pancakes next and knowing how much they all seem to love it, that will be the bottle finished. I think the sauce is good value for money as it is a top quality product locally made in the South Island and that should always be celebrated and supported.

I love Baker's of Geraldine products and I was excited to try this flavour butterscotch and caramel sauce. When I opened the lid I always love hearing the pop sound as the lid comes off. I poured some out on a spoon and noticed it was a good texture bit to running not to thick either, and when I tasted it I was impressed with the taste. I gave some of the spoon to my partner to try who also really enjoyed it.

I tried this on my ice cream and really enjoyed it, it was a good added flavour to the ice cream and paired so well with it. I like how it is easy to pour out and I did not have to heat it up to get the sauce out. It goes well with my many dessert or sweet options. It was nice on pancakes as well with a bit of cream.

I had my babies first birthday party on the weekend and I made some vanilla muffins and added the caramel sauce to the muffins and wow what a hit they were at the party. I added half the muffin mix to the molds and then poured some on top and then added the rest of the muffin mix on top so the sauce sat in the middle and then I added a little couple drops on the top. I found it made the muffins have a chewy crunchy coating on the top and soft and sticky in the middle. My partner and I shared one when they came out of the oven and we were nearly prepared to eat them ourselves and not put them on the food table at the party.

This sauce is great and I would buy it again, you get good uses from the bottle and good value for money.

I enjoy a good caramel sauce and have had plenty of butterscotch lollies in my life, so this sounded like a great combination, especially as a Barker's of Geraldine product. I like that the bottle comes with ideas drawn on it for ways to use this sauce, it is always handy to have an idea or two when trying something out. I opened it up and it smelled delicious, I immediately needed to have a small taste and wasn't dissapointed. I brought this out when my friend was over and we both poured some over our French vanilla cheesecake, took a nice big bite and absolutely loved it.

I was feeling a bit peckish and wanted something sweet to eat, so ransacked my kitchen cupboards and pulled out some Farrah's snack wraps, margarine and In-Salt salted chocolate. I spread margarine on the wrap, a hearty helping of the chocolate salt and then rolled them up nice and tight. After I cut them into smaller pieces, put them in an oven tray and then drizzled the caramel sauce over them before popping them in the oven for a few minutes. My girls thought it was delicious and my nine year old happily ate the extra sticky mess left in the tray whilst my eight year old asked me to make them more.

Ice-cream, muffins, pancakes... This has so many good uses and as three out of the four of us like it, I can see us getting this again.

Baker's products are always a hit in my family, so much so that 90% of the sauces and spreads in our fridge are all by Barker's, we have so much faith in the brand knowing that it will always likely impress us all that we are always quick to pick up a new Barker's product up off the shelves whenever we see one! When I saw that Barker's had released a new range of dessert sauces I was particularly happy, I often love to make desserts and sweet treats, but finding a nice sauce to use as a topping (or filling) is not always easy, so when I was given the Butterscotch Caramel Sauce to review I was particularly happy.

Upon receiving the bottle I was impressed by the deep caramel colour of the sauce that I could see through the tall glass bottle and also by the consistency of the sauce, it certainly wasn't runny and watered down, but it wasn't to thick either just the right consistency to make pouring easy. This Caramel sauce brought back so many childhood memories of mine as growing up I would always visit my Nana's in the school holidays where she would always have a bottle of Caramel Sauce on hand for our ice cream after dinner, and a tray of Caramel slice in the fridge, some of the sauces were definitely better than others so I was looking forward to seeing how this one compared.

The label itself gives several different ideas for trying the sauce out on such as on a Butterscotch date pudding, as an ice cream drizzle, over pancakes or even in a milkshake, all of there ideas sounded great but I decided instead to first off try mine drizzled through a chocolate brownie before baking. After filling my baking tray up with the chocolate brownie batter I drizzled some of the Butterscotch Caramel Sauce lightly through the top of the batter, as the brownie cooked the sauce bubbled away but I was pleased to see that it didn't seep into the mixture, instead it stayed beautifully on the surface and gave a lovely caramel bite to each mouthful.

Next, off I decided to make some banana splits, I placed some halved bananas into a long dish and then topped these with some scoops of Hokey Pokey ice cream, followed by some bite-sized Squiggle Top biscuits, some chopped up Easter Eggs and then lastly the Butterscotch Caramel Sauce, a very generous amount! This tasted A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and by far was one of the best Caramel sauces I've ever tried.

As far as Caramel sauces go this one is by far worth trying, it has a real hint of Butterscotch to it which makes a nice change from your ordinary Caramel sauce, my whole family loved it. A great sauce at a great price which I will be buying again soon as my bottle is almost all gone!
