Product reviews...
I'd like to start by saying I feel this product is mislabelled and is underselling itself. It is labelled as being a carpet and upholstery cleaner, and as an owner of cats, dogs and children it is safe to say that I have utilised many different carpet and upholstery cleaners over the years, and never have I found one that is safe to use on clothing, walls and woodwork. This is truly a multipurpose product, and as such I have found it a very handy product to have in the cleaning cupboard.
To put this cleaner through its paces I tested it on some old seats we had in the garage, awaiting installation in an old holden. These seats are over 50 years old, and I don't believe they had been cleaned in the last 30 years! It was very hot in the garage, and I found the spray dried quickly, and didn't work as effectively as I would have liked, I gave it a few sprays and wiped immediately while it was wet, and I found it cleaned quite well. This was a great start, as the instructions said to let it soak up to five minutes before cleaning, and reading others reviews, that the longer you leave it soaking the better it works.
We have been restoring the car the interior came from, and this has involved sanding a lot of pink paint, and the dust has been staining our clothes, and to date non of our washing powders have been able to remove the pink stains. I liberally sprayed our clothing and fired them into the washing machine, and they came out clean! I was very impressed with this and I will be using this as a stain remover again in the future.
I got the children to give their walls a spray, and wipe, I felt confident with them using this in their rooms as it is one hundred percent eco friendly and chemical free. Again it cleaned the walls, with out any issues. I did try it on an old stain in the carpet and this wasn't as successful, but after reading the feedback of others I think it simply needs a few days to work, rather than a few minutes.
I will recommend this to others, and I will buy it again, although coming in such a large one litre bottle I won't need to purchase another bottle for a while. Like other products in this range the bottle has a clear viewing window, which makes it easy to see exactly how much is left.
Having no carpets and three messy children, I have to be honest that carpet and upholstery cleaners have never been high on my list at all. That being said, we had a few marks and stains that I was keen to try this out on (most being in the car from drinks that had been knocked over). This is a nice, big bottle which was good for price but when it came to little hands that wanted to help me by spraying, my petite seven year old struggled, needing to use both hands and to prop the bottle up on her legs as she sprayed. She did, though, think that the line at the back where you can see how much was left was a fabulous part of this.
I used this on a couple of small stains that have been in the car for years and years and it didn't really have any effect on the stains at all. I then used it on my couch which has some more recent stains from food, felt, slime and lipstick. The food and felt stains came out nice and easily, but the slime left half its stain behind and this didn't work on the lipstick at all, which is the most obvious of the stains (red on dark grey). This states that it works on odors, which was perfect timing as after locking one cat out we accidentally locked one cat in and she proceeded to use the couch as her toilet. The stench was very strong and we grabbed this immediately! I gave it a hefty spray and let it be, sprayed again and gave a scrub, which got out some of the smell, but we've now used almost half the bottle and it still smells, so not too sure if its the urine or the spray, but we're getting there slowly.
This isn't a bad product, I wouldn't mind having it in a smaller size for my ever helpful youngest and though it didn't work on my rather old stains or the cat pee, it did do well on the more recent stains, so I would recommend this to my friends who have kids + carpets.
Anyone with a husband, kids, cats, canaries and a turtle knows accidents are going to happen and no matter how much you want that clean house when you have animals/people living there you have no chance. The very first night we moved into this house after purchasing it our rabbit left a mark on the carpet and till this day it is still there.
I was reading the back of the container and noticed it said removes grass stains followed by it is safe to use on clothing - my daughter had come home from school with her brand new white t-shirt with grass stains all down the back. I was a little worried using it on the shirt considering it says its for Carpet and Upholstery but I was desperate and I know from previous experiences washing detergent just does not cut it so I sprayed all all over the back. It did not appear to wetten the shirt so I sprayed some more and then I picked it up and the top of my washing machine was drenched but yet the top still did not look wet. I put in with a load of washing and crossed my fingers. Hour later I pulled out of the machine and there was no mark to be seen yay.
Jump forward a couple of nights later and sitting down to relax with my husband our big fluff ball had just finished dinner walked into the lounge looked at me and then vomited his guts out all over the carpet and then walked away. I was left to clean up a stomach full of cat biscuits and Tuna jelly meat and was left with a very impressive brown mark which was bigger than the Mercury. So I pulled the spray bottle out and scanned the instructions and sprayed it quite a bit then left for five minutes. I came back and sprayed some more and then as it says wiped it up. I have to admit I did get a cloth and just dab at it so as not to spread the mark and where as it did fade some it was still very noticeable. So the next day I done it again sprayed left and then sprayed some more this time I also applied some pressure when I wiped the carpet and this time I am happy to report the mark is completly removed.
Now the back does say it effectively removes a wide range of items and I am definitely planning on trying it out. I can say that the two areas I worked on came up perfectly and I am really impressed. It does not have an odour which also I am more than happy about. I think we are about to become very good friends as between these walls and under this roof there are always new stain challenges popping up.
Before having children I never really thought about upholstery and carpet cleaners, however now with three young children and a large boisterous dog, that has changed. Our house has light coloured carpet and seems to show every mark or stain that it experiences. When I saw that NZYME products were available to review on KIWIreviews and that they were 100% biodegradable, I was keen to put the products effectiveness to the test.
The bottle is very distinguishable with it's dark coloured label with contrasting strip on the left, the NZYME logo and green fern, and the label shows clearly what the product is. According to the bottle it claims this product is good at cleaning stains such as coffee, blood, wine, dirt, pet accidents and many more. A major selling point is that this product is eco-friendly, and safe for people and animals. When I read all the different types of surfaces it could be used on, I started getting other ideas of where I could use it.
I started off by testing a spot on our carpet in the lounge which had a stain from some spilled coffee. I wasn't expecting much of a result but I was very impressed, the stain is virtually non-existent now. I have tried a few other stains and they have been removed successfully. With no foul smell I am happy in using this product in my house while the children are around. I plan on using this on the carpets in my car next, especially the floor mats under where my children sit.
I have already recommended this product to my parents, they have had an unwell dog who has been having accidents inside. I think they will see a vast improvement of their carpet, especially eliminating the odour. I think this product is definitely worth it's price tag as a little goes a long way. This product is now a go-to in my household, is it sad that I am actually excited to go round my home and try to eliminate all the stains??
As is always the case, whenever you want a stain to appear, nothing happens! I wasn't that keen to purposely spill anything so when I visited my friend and discovered her dog had pooed on the carpet, I was inwardly fist pumping! Even though she removed the poo and tried to soak up the liquids, there was still a large stain on her lovely red carpet. As a good friend, I volunteered to come round the following day and share some NZYME carpet cleaner to try and remove the stain. Said stain was still extremely noticeable the next day so I followed the instructions and sprayed directly onto the stain and left for 5 mins. For the record, it is recommended to test a hidden section of the carpet first but if you'd seen this stain, it couldn't get any worse and my friend was keen for the stain to disappear. We had a cuppa and when we went back she wiped the area and the stain had virtually disappeared. We could see a faint outline and decided to do another application. As this spray is safe for pets I told her to leave it overnight and let me know how it was in the morning. The next morning I had a very happy friend on the phone to say that not only had the stain completely gone, there was no nasty smell either!
I like that fact that you can use this spray on wool, carpets, clothing, walls and woodwork, it really is a one-stop stain remover. This will definitely be a permanent addition to my cleaning sprays and when the next accident happens, I know it won't be a problem!
When Miss Nine spilled coffee all over the bed, I tried to pretend it was ok. After all, she had made us breakfast in bed; it was not her fault that one of the cats had sneaked down and tripped her up! I assured her that the bedding could be washed and not to worry about it. But when I stripped the bed, I found that the coffee had soaked through the bedclothes and right into the mattress. The stain was the size of a side plate and the mattress was brand new. I tried sponging it with cold water, but it seemed that my new mattress was permanently marked. It would just have to stay that way.
Weeks later, I was given the opportunity to review this product. I was dubious about how effective it might be. I had already tried two other products in the same range and found them both excellent, but getting an ingrained stain out of fabric is much more of a challenge. I was willing to give it a go but was not holding my breath.
We were going to be away for a few days, so I thought the best time to test it was just before we left. That would mean the mattress would have a chance to dry out before our return. I followed the instructions to the letter, leaving a large damp stain in the middle of the mattress to work its magic during our absence. I did not bother with testing a section of fabric first; it could not be any worse than the coffee stain even if it did leave a watermark.
A week later, I was back home inspecting the area I had sprayed and trying to find the stain. The only way I could work out where it had been was by looking at the area around it. The treated area was now cleaner than the rest of the mattress! I could not believe it. That stain had become part of my life and now it was gone. Now I will have to spray the rest of the surface so it is all equally clean.
Following my success with the mattress, I used it on the sofa. This time I did do the patch test as the surface is a light grey imitation velvet material and I thought it might discolour. The test showed up no issues so I went ahead and sprayed it. It was a day before I noticed the improvement, but it continued to get lighter and the little marks that accumulate with age were disappearing. According to the pack, the product can take a full seven days to become fully effective, so we will refrain from using the sofa until the seven days is up. But after my experience with the mattress, I am confident that this will be just as successful.
Next up are my car seats, but I will wait for a time when I won't be driving for a couple of days so that the enzymes are given every chance to do their job. At times like this I am glad that there is no obvious perfume added - artificial scents are bad enough in the home, but even worse in the confines of a car. And no doubt I will think of many more uses for this product. I am already hooked on it!
