My children and I were excited to watch this movie, having watched Gnomeo and Juliet and enjoyed it we knew another adventure with the gnomes would be a great family movie night pick. With children of varying ages Sherlock Gnomes is a great watch together kind of movie as it has humour and action that adults and children alike can get something out of and we indeed all had a good laugh throughout the movie. Although for me it was not quite as good as the original Gnomeo and Juliet, Sherlock Gnomes was a bit of a hit for our family.
Having discovered the other gnomes missing from the garden, Gnomeo and Juliet call on Sherlcok Gnomes to help them solve the mystery, the classic Sherlock Holmes storyline of a gnome with detective skills and the tools and gadgets to tackle the bad guys and bring the gnomes back home to the garden. The movie is action packed with plot twists and turns showing us different villians, enemies, and motives for the sudden disappearance. The film is rated PG as there is some low level violence as we see Sherlock take on the gargoyles to save the gnomes so for younger children it probably is best to be watched with adults if they are sensitive or may be scared as the gargoyles may potentially be frightening.
Sherlock Gnomes is definitely a feel good movie, where we find characters working together and friendships being reconciled. Messages of teamwork and being true to yourself and your friends make it a great film for young children. The film shows that in hard times real friends will be there when they are needed with an ending that makes you go aww that's nice. We have watched the movie again or the children have watched it themselves on a rainy day so it is definitely a movie you want to watch again, great laughs and another adventure for Gnomeo and Juliet.
