Product reviews...
Great Day Mallow passionfruit marshmallow's are utterly delicious and a top of the range quality product that I couldn't recommend highly enough. When I first noticed this product up for review I quickly put my name forward as I was thinking primarily of my daughter who's favourite treat is marshmallows and one of her favourite fruit is passionfruit - what couldn't be more perfect. I was therefore excited to try this product - both for her along with my own taste buds as I love to try new and different things. My husband and two friends also sampled this product and agree totally with this review and the conclusions we reached.
I loved the overall package that this product was presented as. That this, the handwritten expiry note that made me 100% sure that this product truly is handmade. The box that perfectly fits the huge nine pieces of beautifully soft marshmallow that is unlike any other marshmallow I've tried (and believe me there's been a few over the years). And lastly the presentable packaging with a simple yet stand out design. I will totally be buying this product again, not only for our own family but also to add to presents for others as I feel these are something extra special and not an every day product.
I have to also mention the ingredients list, with no artificial colours or flavours, I felt a million times better giving my children this as a treat as opposed to many other options available! Using the passionfruit powder is also a real advantage to this product I feel, as it means the taste is very close to fresh passionfruit I felt. My almost 4year old after trying these promptly declared "these are yum as Mum. It's because they are passionfruit flavour and I love real passionfruit and these taste just like the passionfruit that I love". One thing with children is they certainly give their very honest opinions and this time round I 100% agree with her thoughts.
Whether its mixed with other products (such as making ambrosia like we did) or on their own as a treat, these marshmallows hold a declious flavour that is so real. The marshmallow itself is so soft, so real, and so unlike any other marshmallow I've ever eaten. It was almost like eating clouds haha! As strange as that sounds, it really is true and I completely recommend you give this product a try as I know you wont be disappointed
I really wanted to review these marshmellows because marshmellows are one of my favourite types of candy and I haven't found one I don't like yet (aside from those with coconut in them which I refuse to try). When these Passionfruit marshmellows arrived I wasn't sure what to expect, I'd never tried this flavour before and I was a little worried that the flavour would be all consuming and overpowering. Really, I shouldn't have worried at all. Upon opening the packet (which is actually a packet inside the plastic container, double sealed) I could immediately smell the passionfruit but the actual taste was beautiful and mild and the marshmellows were some of the softest I've ever tried.
I really wanted to make some fruit kebabs and lolly cake with these marshmellows but when they arrived I decided that the texture and softness to them wouldn't be quite right so instead I made some Rocky Road with some pieces of biscuit and some crushed peanuts.
I only used about 4 of the full marshmellows but I cut them up into smaller squares each since the 9 squares that come in the packet are quite large and I didn't need them to be that big. I mixed the cut up marshmellows with the broken up biscuits and crushed peanuts and then melted some dark chocolate and mixed them all together until chocolate coated everything. I placed the mixture into some large silicon ice cube trays and placed them in the fridge overnight until they were solid.
The next morning I popped them all out and my husband and I shared one between us. The passionfruit flavour of the marshmellow made the rocky road so much more special than ordinary marshmellows. My husband, who isn't a huge marshmellow fan loved the rocky road and even commented on how nice the passionfruit flavour was. My children absolutely devoured their pieces and have made us promise to serve them for desert until there are none left.
As for the remainder of the marshmellows in the packet, they are mine, all mine. I'm not keen to share them with my children because they wouldn't appreciate the taste as much as I do and at the price of $7 per container I'd much rather share them with adults who will hopefully buy me more once they realise how good they are.
I don't have as much of a sweet tooth as I used to but I am still always eager to try something different, especially if it is a twist on a fan favourite. My kids and mother all enjoy marshmallows as well, especially my youngest who loves them as they are so easy for her to eat. This brand has such a homemade feel to them, not just that they are, but they look the part too, the packaging is simple and states outright what you should expect from the product. The final added touch, is the handwritten best before date on the added slip of paper which also has the added bonus of making the best before date obvious.
Getting them out of the packet I had a momentary worry that one of other would rip as they were well stuck to each other but with some gentle encouragement they separated without damage to one another. I handed a piece to each of my three children and my mother. My marshmallow lover took a decent sized bite and promptly declared she didn't like it while my eldest took a tiny bite and also declared he didn't like it, however my mother was happy as not only did she enjoy her piece, she got to finish theirs. I wasn't left hungering for more, while the taste was authentic it just didn't have the zing I would have liked.
The packet recommends that you put these in an airtight container once you have opened. At the time, I folded the plastic bag, the they were in, over and popped it back in the container that it came in and promptly forgot about it in the muddle of general life and contemplation of shifting house. I knew upon getting a new piece that any problems would be directly my fault, but I am delighted to say that the marshmallows were just as fresh and soft as they they arrived in my house. I shared the last pieces between my mother and I though I wasn't huge on this flavour, I would love to try another. $7 may seem expensive to begin with however it is well made and I think the price is perfect for the product.
It was the little touches that made this product really special. The cute little box which was exactly the right size for nine huge pieces of marshmallow, the handwritten expiry date which made me feel that someone had crafted it just for me, the thoughtful presentation of the whole product which would make it ideal as a gift ... and that was before we had so much as opened it!
I had taken the box to my daughter's house so she and her husband and children could help me to evaluate it. As there were nine pieces, it meant we could have one piece each and then the remaining four could be divided so that we all got equal shares. My daughter has always been great at dividing food so that everyone gets an equal portion so we left the division of five into four up to her!
We all had different reactions to the flavour. The children and I all loved it. We are passionfruit addicts so anything with this flavour as its base is destined to become a favourite. The texture of the marshmallow was soft and very light, quite rich but not overly so. I don't think I could eat more than two pieces at one sitting, however, although Mr Seven was positive he could eat the whole packet on his own!
Their parents were less enthusiastic. My son-in-law thought the passionfruit was too strong and took away from the marshmallow effect. My daughter also thought that the flavour was really pronounced, to the point of being overwhelming, and said she would like less. However, she did add that it was not unpleasant, just not her thing. Both of them commented favourably on the way that the pieces kept their shape when pressed slightly.
We decided that, in the unlikely event of the package not being finished in one go, it might be best to store the rest in an airtight container. This recommendation does appear on the packaging, but even without it, it would be a no-brainer to store the leftovers out of the way of dampness or draughts in order to preserve the freshness of the product. It is packed with great care so that is reaches its destination in pristine condition, so it would be a shame to not follow through.
All in all, as a family we liked this product. It was classy, tasty, and looked enticing. What differences we had seemed to be mainly in the area of the flavour intensity - i.e. the point at which a flavour becomes too strong. There are always going to be individual reactions to new food products; on balance, I think it was a general thumbs up to this one.
Imagine you were a soft fluffy cloud floating through the sky, this is exactly the thought that crossed my mind when I opened up my package of Passionfruit Great Day Mallows, from the very first bite I was in heaven one made of soft and sweet fluffy clouds of pure delight. Marshmallows are one of those things I always have on hand in the pantry as I always feel that they are a much healthier treat than other more commercialised sweets on the market and so I prefer to give Miss4 marshmallows over anything else, so when I saw these come up for review I knew they would be well worth me trying, and oh boy I'm so glad that I did just that!
These particular marshmallows are melt in your mouth delicious, they come in packs of 9 squares in uniform size, and they really are one of the yummiest thing I have ever eaten. As soon as I opened up the packaging I was struck with the sweet and tangy smell of the passionfruit, I was not at all surprised that this was so strong as this product uses freeze dried passionfruit powder rather than artificial flavours which most products tend to contain. The flavour was incredible and the taste of the passionfruit was just right it didn't take over from the marshmallow but it was certainly there and tasted as fresh as a passionfruit straight from the vine, juicy and tangy.
My whole family absolutely loved these and it was rather hard to not eat them all in one go, however I had some plans up my sleeve in which I wanted to try these out with so we had to resist from eating the lot! The first thing I tried these out in was ambrosia, I simply beat 2 tubs of vanilla yoghurt with some cream and then added in some fresh mango, white chocolate and of course the passionfruit marshmallows chopped up into small pieces, the results were amazing and even through the other flavours in the desert the marshmallows were really a standout winner, and a favourite of everyone who had gathered to try it.
With the 3 remaining marshmallows I decided to toast them over the gas cooktop so that I could make a smore each for my family's dessert, these were a great size for doing so, and they went lovely and gooey with out melting to much over minimum heat, sandwiched between 2 plain biscuits with a square of chocolate they made a lovely treat.
Will I buy these again? Most definitely I have already sourced them around the corner from work and I have them on my to buy very soon list as I plan to buy some for my mother-in-laws birthday in just a few weeks. Undoubtedly the best marshmallows you will ever taste, I can't wait to sample more flavours.
