I have three very avid Harry Potter fans in my house so when I saw this latest offering from Klutz in the form of Harry Potter Paper Flyers I figured it would find its perfect home with my three.
The cover on this book is very eye catching and my girls couldn't wait to get this home and start building. Obviously with three we had to ensure everyone had an equal amount of flyers to make but I think we managed that well. Each flyer comes with good details as to how to make it and also some information about each dragon or creature. All of this is in lovely glossy pages whilst the punch out pieces are in lovely matt colored cardboard. The pieces for the flying creatures punch out really easily and we only had one small rip which I thought was pretty good. The girls loved making these and we had a great time testing out the best ways to get these creatures flying. My six year old had the most perseverance with these and got some good distance with hers. We now have what seems like a menagerie of paper flying creatures and the girls have lots of fun with them.
Overall I think that this has been a fun activity book that has provided a lot of entertainment but also promoted the girls building skills. I would definitely recommend this as a great gift especially over the school holidays when the kids have a decent period of time to be able to construct and play with these. Certainly a great purchase for an Harry Potter fans. Another great Klutz product.
While looking at the products that were available to request, I saw the Harry Potter Paper Flyers book and got excited. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I liked the fact I could do the paper flyers with my children. I submitted my request and kept my fingers crossed. When I received the box of goodies and opened it my children wanted to instantly start constructing the Flyers. Unfortunately for my children we had an appointment to get to so they had to wait until the next day (which happened to be perfect as it was a cold day out.)
The book is very vibrant in colour which was the first thing we noticed, next we noticed the eye-catching image of the dragon. We opened the book and proceeded to read the instructions. The instructions were very easy to understand and had diagrams to show how to do each step. After the instructions there is a section called 'Flight Training' which shows how to get an optimum flight from the Flyers. Near the end of the book there is a graph to chart how some of the flight tests go. I was expecting the book to just be about the Flyers but was pleasantly surprised to see that throughout the book there were pages that were dedicated to explaining the history of each Flyer character.
The Flyers were simple to pop out of the pages and due to the thickness of the pages thankfully there were no tears. We found that the suggestion in the book to use a table edge to fold along the lines, was very useful and very efficient. The Flyers once constructed were just the right size for my children to hold. My personal favourite was the Hedwig the Snowy Owl Flyer, my children both loved the Harry Potter on his broomstick one. After doing several flights we were finally getting the hang of how to get the best glide, this provided several hours of excitement for both me and the children.
Overall I am thoroughly impressed with this book and the quality of the Flyers. I would recommend them for around age 7 years of age, unless younger children are having help from an adult. These would be a fantastic way to spend a rainy day inside.
