I'm always on the look out for books that would appeal to my 7yr old son to keep his interest in books. What boy or even girl doesn't find bodily functions and being dirty fun so was really happy to receive this book to read and review. My kids and I haven't read any of the previous books about Dirty Bertie but have seen these books in the library before.

This book called Aliens by Alan MacDonald has 3x short stories in it Aliens, Twitter and Report and all approx 30 pages long this is great as I think this is more manageable than one long story for kids. I would recommend this for kids 8yrs or older to read on their own or younger advanced readers. And for younger kids who want this to be read to them at only 30pages won't take too long and can split over a few nights. The bright cover page is engaging but the pictures inside are black and white, while they are great graphics they don't grab the kids attention as much as if they were in colour.

At $14 retail I think this is abit expensive but being Scholastic they are really good quality books and if you get the lucky book club brochures from your kids I'm sure you could pick up a great deal.

My girls love anything disgusting relating to bodily functions and love the Dirty Bertie series. They were very excited to read Aliens! which features 3 mini stories, each approximately 30 pages long. The book has some entertaining black and white pictures throughout the book which my daughters enjoyed looking at.

The first story Aliens! has Bertie believing he has seen a UFO when looking through a telescope. He leaves a welcoming message, attends a talk on Aliens and is very excited when some aliens come to visit him. In the second story Twitter! Bertie goes bird watching with his friend Eugene and his father. Although Bertie is bored and on the lookout for a large hawk, he manages to see the one thing everyone is looking for! Lastly, Bertie receives his end of year school report in Report! As you can imagine, it's not the glowing report he hopes for and manages to dispose of the report before his parents see it. At the Parent Teacher meeting his plan is foiled and the truth comes out!

My 8 year old daughter enjoyed reading Aliens! but didn't think that Bertie was as dirty as he was in previous books. Although he was his usual scruffy and messy self, they were expecting a few more disgusting things to happen so were a little disappointed. That said, the stories were entertaining and Bertie got his comeuppance when it was due!
