Bear on a Bike product reviews

Bear is delivering a birthday cake to his friend, Mouse - but Mouse has already zoomed off on his bike! How can Bear catch up with him? On a bike? In a lorry? On a train? In a trolley? It's going to be a very battered cake by the time he reaches Mouse!

Young children will love following Bear's journey, with all its scrapes, fun and transport.

Bear on a Bike...a fun title that really grabbed the attention of Miss 4! From her perspective, the book is fun and colourful, full of bright colours and funny pictures. The sentences are simple and easy to follow which makes it perfect for her learning to read and recognising the letters and sounds. The changing pictures made a fun find-a book, seeing what different characters she can find and making up stories about what they might be doing while Bear tries to deliver the cake.

From a parent's perspective, I also enjoyed that I could either make it a quick bedtime story that I solely read, or a longer learning story where words get sounded out and put together in sentences. The pictures made sense to what the story was saying which made it easier.

The part that irked me was how the story starts with using Bear as the name of the bear as in 'Bear's in the kitchen' but then 2 pages later it changes to using a pro-noun and writes 'Bear on a bike' instead of Bear's on a bike. Not a big thing at the kindy level that Miss 4 is at, but for older kids reading it, or older kids reading to younger kids, if might be a bit confusing. This aside, we loved the book and happily read it over and over again.

I absolutely love receiving books from Scholastic's to review as does Miss 3 so we were very excited to receive Bear on a Bike by Hannah Shaw to review. Miss 3 was absolutely delighted right from the get go as soon as she saw the front cover of a bear on a bike holding a cake and the happy little mouse telling me "the bear is being silly, you don't ride bikes with a cake in your hand or you will fall off".

Bear on a bike is a gorgeous book about a bear who bakes a cake for his good friend Mouse who is celebrating his birthday, unfortunately when bear arrives at mouse's house mouse has already gone out on his scooter. Bear can't wait to give mouse his special birthday cake and so sets off after him with the cake in hand. Throughout the book bear ride's on various different types of vehicles such as buses, aeroplanes, parachutes and boats trying to catch up to mouse, eventually at the end of the book they are reunited at home again where they share the yummy cake.

Miss 3 adores this book and has requested it along with her other favourite books every night as her bedtime story since having received it. As the book has only a few words per page and is rather catchy and repetitive she is now beginning to read the story herself as she has learnt all of the names of the various modes of transports, she loves that she is able to retell the story herself and I love how great this is for boosting her self-esteem and confidence.

Working in a daycare with under two year olds for a majority of the day vehicles are always a hot favourite item both in toy form and also for when it comes to reading books. Bear on a Bike has been a absolute hit with my daycare children and they just love the book often pointing up to the book shelf where I place the book at the start of each day and asking for "the bear". They love looking at the pictures of the different vehicles and naming the ones which they can recognize and making each of the corresponding sounds of these. The book is short enough that they are able to easily sit still and listen to the entire story without loosing concentration which is great for mat times.

A beautiful book with bold, colorful, and fun pictures of a happy bear, which have so much detail to them. This is a book loved by all who have seen it and have had it read to them and I thoroughly recommend it to any child who loves vehicles a great story with a twist to your usual vehicle or transport like story, loved by both boys and girls and would make a great gift.
