Product reviews...
There can be few children (and adults for that matter) who can have failed to be captivated by 'The Wonky Donkey' by Craig Smith. Whether you have listened to it, read it, or even seen the viral video, it is a song that really captures the imagination of everyone who engages with it. That is why we were so excited to receive this box set in our recent review package. My daughter was already a huge fan of the book, and I knew that she would love this version, especially when it had her very own donkey inside!
The box itself is very well set out. The book and the plush donkey are both visible through the window at the front, and the box has been finished with some of the lovely illustrations from the book. It is really easy to see what you are getting, and it is smart enough to not need gift wrap etc if you were to give it as a gift.
Inside the box is a smaller paperback version of the book and a plush donkey toy complete with wonky leg. The book is just a smaller version of the original book, so the beautiful illustrations and wonderful text are still there in all of their glory. We have recently taken ours on holiday with us, and it is the perfect size to travel in a bag or in the car without taking up too much room, but also big enough to still fully engage with the story. It is really easy to download the song to go along with the book, so despite not having the cd with it, I really didn't feel like we missed anything.
The plush toy is fantastically detailed. Not only does it have a wonky leg, but also an eye patch (ours has become known as Winky Wonky Donkey). He is small enough for a child to use to act out the story, and snuggly soft for cuddling too. He is very well made, and incredibly sturdy- perfect for acting out the entire song.
As I'm sure most people will know, the story is fantastic. Craig Smith's ability to draw you in to the tale of someone walking down the road and seeing a donkey is amazing. The story is upbeat, fun and always sounds fresh, no matter how many times you hear it. I also love the fact that despite being a stinky-dinky, cranky, winky and wonky, he is still described as good looking- what a fantastic way to say that despite your flaws, you can still have confidence in how you look. At no point do you feel that the donkey is being mocked for having differences, but instead accepted.
Winky Wonky Donkey, and the book which he came with, has really found a place in our hearts. A fantastic gift for a variety of ages and endless fun for parents and children alike.
I was super excited to get this pack in the box of goodies to review. I knew my boys would be keen on it. As my 17 month old baby sat in his high chair I opened the box and started reading him the book. I thought it was hilarious and so did my partner and my oldest son. My partner was sitting on the couch in the lounge cracking up and my oldest son was standing behind me and joined in with reading it.
My wee one was giggling away and seemed to really enjoy it. I loved the riddle of it all and how catchy it was and also found it was not a tongue twister saying it all and did not get the words messed up. The sentences flowed and came out word for word. It was a really cool book and good entertainment and I know my wee one will love it as he loves books that repeat themselves.
The teddy donkey inside the box is awesome and well made and tells the story on its own. It is a great package and I am sure any kid would be happy to receive it. The price is a little steep then what I would probably pay but it is a book you would get lots of use out of and over time your kids would probably learn it of by heart. They would also share it with friends to read as its a funny book and many kids would get a good laugh from it. Great overall feedback and happy with the product in our house. Awesome review.
