I have always been a fan of blue vein cheese coz my parents always had a chunk of it in the house. Sometimes, that would be the only cheese opened and so it was the house rules that opened cheese got eaten first. After a while I learned to like the taste and so I have always made the effort to get some when I could afford it. I had never heard of cream cheese being made from anything but a cheese of its own so to see a gorgonzola cream cheese up for review made me curious.

Trying this on its own on crackers was a disaster. It is so silky and creamy that it started to escape off the sides of the crackers if I left them too long. Putting it on the crackers first and then trying to slice tomato and pickles to go on top just took too long. After a couple of them had made successful escape attempts I figured it would be better to put all the ingredients in smaller serving bowls and do it as a DIY as-you-go dish for starters before dinner. We were having some friends over for a meal.

It seemed to please everyone who was brave enough to try it. They all commented on the unusual but pleasant taste, but for me the runniness was just too much hassle to deal with. There was maybe a third of the pot left afterwards so I decided to use it in the main course, which was nachos. I mixed it into the sour cream that went on top and everyone could smell it immediately. They all agreed this was a great addition and I think so too. It added a great extra layer of flavour to the food and helped me to extend the sour cream enough that all eight of us could enjoy the flavour, even those who didn't want to try it on crackers.

Great stuff, and I just wish it wasnt so pricy and hard to find in the Waikato area. If I could, I think I would buy this again for special dinners.

My five year old son and I have become regular readers Geronimo Stilton books and gorgonzola cheese is often mentioned in the books. I thought that it sounded interesting and so far I have never had the opportunity to taste it. I saw that there was a gorgonzola cream cheese available for review through KIWIreviews. I was rather intrigued. It was pointed out to me that it is a mild type of blue cheese. I was then sold. We LOVE blue cheese in our house. I am glad that I knew to expect a *mild* version of blue cheese as we do tend to go more for the stronger blues. However, I thought that any type of blue cheese had to be good.

When I got it home, I opened the pot up as I was really looking forward to trying it out. I was so impressed with how smooth it was. Velvety is probably the best word to describe it. When I tasted it, I was in heaven straight away! It wasn't too strong (as had been previously explained to me), however, it was a really nice gentle blue cheese flavour. It wasn't too weak and I was not at all disappointed. I didn't really want to go past eating it by the spoonful, straight out of the pot. I managed to compose myself and put some onto plain crackers. Again, I really enjoyed it.

I took the next couple of days to think about how I could make use of the rest of the pot (apart from diving in with my spoon). Today, my husband made me a nice dish with some smoked chicken we had in the fridge. He thought I had to review that, so he had set up a platter of salad for my lunch so I could 'review' it. I had to laugh as it wasn't the chicken I had to review. It was then that I thought about the Crema di Gorgonzola DOP waiting for me in the fridge! I added a couple of spoonfuls on top of the salad and it really enhanced my lunch. I would certainly use it in that way again.

Other ideas which have come to mind would be to use it on baked potatoes, pasta, sandwiches etc. I think it might be a good idea to pop some potatoes in the oven for dinner tonight to see how it goes. I am 100% convinced that it will taste amazing!

The ingredients are very simple and therefore right up my alley. I certainly prefer not to see a great big list of unnecessary colours and numbers in the ingredient list! I went onto the website listed on the back of the pot to see if I could find anything else out about the product. It was in Italian so I was out of luck! I did see that there was a salmon version of this product and I would be very keen to try that.

Now that I know and love the gorgonzola taste, I would love the opportunity to try this product again. The price reflects that it is a gourmet product and something that I would consider when planning a special meal or platter of food. I really did enjoy it!
