At the Fieldays in the weekend I came across the Pic's Really Good Peanut Butter stand and so of course being a peanut butter lover myself I had to have a wee sample of their smooth peanut butter as I have only ever tried and purchased the crunchy variety before which I absolutely love. Must to my amazement my 3 year old also wanted to try some when she was offered the chance and blow and behold she actually really enjoyed it and put her hand out for a second sample, when it comes to nuts and peanuts she usually spits them straight out of her mouth! We ended up purchasing 2 jars one smooth and one crunchy as the deal they had going was pretty good!

The texture of this peanut butter is very smooth, and upon opening it I noticed that there was a thin layer of oil on the top, this I put down to the fact that it is a very natural peanut butter. However it was easy to rectify this product by giving it a quick stir with a knife which left a jar full of the most silky smooth peanut butter I had ever seen. The flavour was delightful very nice and peanuty with only the smallest hint of salt.

This went down great on toast for breakfast and what was even better was the way it was so easy to spread on to my hot slices of toast. I decided to experiment with the peanut butter even more and as Sunday is usually baking day in our house, it seemed only right to find a way to add some of this peanut butter to my baking. Miss 3 and I decided to make some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, super quick and easy to make. The peanut butter was easy to mix in and due to the smoothness and moistness of it I found that it was so much easier to mix in than other peanut butters I have used in the past, the result was some very yummy cookies with the perfect balance of peanut butter and chocolate in taste... Miss 3 LOVED them and declared that the peanut butter is "the best in the world".

After having the taste of this amazing peanut butter I can't wait to try it out some more with the many ideas I have from using it in satay chicken, to making muffins with it, I can even see it working well in things such as truffles. I will definitely only be buying Pic's peanut butter from now on!

Like the original (crunchy) version of this, it was very hard to keep it away from the kids long enough for me to give it a taste and write a review on it. Firstly it is a very smooth blend, no doubt help by the natural peanut oil that has been wisely left in the mix. I say this as far to many companies do their best to remove or at least limit the amount of peanut oil, and this can result in a very dry looking mass the nearer you get to the bottom of the jar, but it certainly appears not to be the case here.

Next we have the taste, and I can confirm that this is just as tastly as the original version, and would be perfect for those people who prefer their breakfast spreads to be nice and smooth. Me I prefer a but of crunch to my PB, but hey i'll still eat it smooth as well.

Once again the peanuts had a great taste to them and this brand is now our families new preferred brand (thank goodness they are available at our local supermarket)

I have been an utter peanut butter nutter since I was a wee lad. Hot, fresh toast, real butter, peanut butter slathered on it... heaven for breakfast! Nowdays, because I have two boys who also enjoy it, I hardly get a shot at that jar myself, so the chance to review these was like a shaft of sunlight breaking through an overcast sky.

First things first, opening the jar I was forewarned by the label that there may be a layer of natural peanut oil awaiting me. There was, but it was so thin as to be almost not there. Just putting the knife in to stir it solved the oil slick issue as it disappeared into the mass of peanut butter to be immediately re-absorbed. Still, even with that slight sheen of top, the bulk of the PB was moist and silky smooth, and though it was sticky enough to stay on the knife easily, spreading it was like smoothing out silk.

Wanting to try something different, I added a dollop of this to the centre of some fruit muffins I was making. I have always enjoyed the whole "fruit and nut" combo, be it with chocolate or in a health bar. This was a great impulse I am now glad I followed, as the results were delectable! Rich, fruity muffins with a gooey nutty center to balance it out.

Overall, though this carries a slightly higher price tag than the bulk rubbish, it has far less salt, no added sugar, and none of the nasty additives found in all the 'bargain' brands. This is PEANUT butter, not peanut-flavoured CHEMICAL butter, and that warrants the extra cost for me. A fixed item on the shopping list from now on!

Pic's smooth peanut butter, like the originals, is packed full of peanuts and is absolutely yummy. This stuff is amazing. Unlike the other jars (original and smooth no salt) this one only lasted 5 mins...literally! We decided to bake, using this smooth peanut butter and the original no salt peanut butter...because baking is always fun. So it was decided cookie time! With and without chocolate chips.

The original peanut butter in cookies gives a nice crunchier cookie, and the addition of choc chips just gives a really tasty morsel. But the smooth also bakes a really nice cookie. The peanut butter bakes really well, giving a wonderful smooth consistency to the cookie dough and the final colour of the cookies is a beautiful caramel colour that makes even the saddest cookie look perfect! We made four batches of 24 cookies each...they last less than 2 days. We did freeze a dozen just to see how they would fear and am happy to report that even frozen then thawed they are still extremely good. But at nearly $8.00 a jar it could be an expensive way to bake when you use almost an entire jar lol

The cookie baking made me want to search out more recipes and i am happy to report that you do not have to go far, in fact check out (once more) Pics peanut butter website: http://www.reallygood.co.nz/recipes/ and click on recipes and you will find peanut butter chowder, peanut butter beef, peanut butter choc chop cookies (not the same recipe we used but the next one we tried), peanut butter chocolate, coleslaw, birdie bread and oh so much more.

Thanks KIWIreviews and Pics peanut butter because we now have a whole new appreciation of the good stuff.

This peanut butter tastes amazing. Although I prefer crunchy peanut butter this is a bit of a contender for my PB and banana on toast!

The smooth peanut butter sticks to the top of my mouth a bit when eaten straight off the spoon but when eaten on toast it is fine. I do prefer crunchy so this is a personal preference thing. This is incredibly smooth peanut butter so if you like smooth then this is the one for you. The nuts are sourced from Argentina and then roasted and ground in Nelson. The flavour of the smooth is really nice and rich and peanutty and I do like the flavour of this. It tastes just how good peanut butter should. It isn't dry and has a lovely oily consistency. The oil sits on the top so just needs a bit of a stir. This is much nicer than other brands I have tried.

I wasn't sure how to use this other than just eat it on toast then remembered the yummy peanut butter balls my mum used to make when I was little. Pretty simple. Peanut butter with milk powder and honey. I made two batches of these. One with my jar of original smooth and one with my jar of no salt and mixed up with some with Oats and some without. Pretty yummy. They are the perfect treat and I can convince myself that they are natural so kind of good protein/calcium shots! For an extra nice treat these can be dipped in chocolate.

If I was a smooth peanut butter fan then I would definitely buy this but because I like crunchy I have to opt for that. Hubby however really rated the taste of this and loved the fresh taste. The kids also prefer smooth peanut butter so I may find myself buying this occasionally.

This was the final of Pic's peanut butters that I had tried. It was only one that had a slight oily film on the top. It was very easy to mix in with the knife. It certainly wasn't the centimetre of oil I recall from the peanut butters of my childhood.

I loved the flavour. It only had a touch of salt which meant that it was closer to my preferred choice of unsalted than most peanut butters I've tried. This also made it a healthier choice than the heavily salted ones. If the store I was in had run out of Pic's unsalted smooth I would be more than happy to purchase this one. Both of Pic's smooth varieties have a thinner consistency which is better for the waistline and the wallet.

I chose to make a peanut butter rice bubble slice with this jar. It was very quick and easy to do using the microwave. It was enjoyed but everyone from my preschool daughters through to my eighty year old father-in-law. Thanks to Google I have discovered so many different recipes using peanut butter. Many like the slice are so simple and well received that they will become a regular part of my baking. The top quality of Pic's products definitely makes my baking taste better.

We live in a smooth peanut butter household. My husband only eats smooth, and my daughter does not do bits. I buy what the majority eat. I was interested to see how this one would fair in our household. The flavour of this peanut butter was very similar to the original crunchy with salt. The main difference was the smooth consistency. I also found that this didn't have as much oil sitting at the top of the jar. So I didn't need to re-mix the oil back into the spread.

So far this peanut butter has been one of my favourite ones. It still wasn't to the same level of saltiness that I like. But it has a good roasted nutty flavour, and I can tell there is salt in there. It seemed less oily in general. For my husband, his main criteria for peanut butter is that it not be sweet. This spread has no added sugar which is very important to us.

I also felt that this had good versatility. Without the textured bits, this can be mixed into cookies, cakes and mixes easily into icing. One thing I tried was to spoon this smooth peanut butter down the side of my piping bag before adding cream cheese icing to the bag. This gave a fantastic ripple-effect to the icing. It tasted great on my Halloween pumpkin spice cupcakes too.
