Never been a fan of gory details, so this was a bit too raw for me to consider showing a younger kid, but it would be great and highly suitable, imho, for intermediate and early college ages, since by then they have seen far worse on TV and be almost innured to the messier side of the after-death experience.
More than just the traditional Egyptian mummies, the book covers mummified remains from many cultures around the world. From wet rainforest to arid desert, many cultures of humanity have practiced a variety preservative rituals for various, usually spiritual or religious, reasons. There's even coverage of the animals that got mummified in places. So there is a lot of ground to cover, and the book covers it extremely well. A most impressive reference manual for older kids. However, like all good things, take it in small portions... there is a LOT of information, and it can be a bit overwhelming.

Product reviews for listing 3641: The Maze Runner
Written by: James Dashner

Product image for The Maze RunnerWhen the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas can remember is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade, an encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible maze.

Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there, or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything to find out, even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horrors that hunt the Maze's walled corridors.
