Whilst my kids are a little bit young to appreciate Thea and Geronimo Stilton on their own yet, I love reading them to my eldest ( six year old girl ) as she has slightly older friends that have talked about them with her. When I saw the Thea Stilton books pop up for review, I jumped at the chance to review one - so we could " try before we buy " so to speak - and see if Miss 6 would enjoy them too. We were not disappointed, and she picked he book straight up and exclaimed we HAD to read it together.

The book, as the cover picture suggests , takes us to Greece, where Thea, and the Thea sisters embark on an adventure whilst there on a holiday. They make friends with an acting company, where, right before the play is due to open, the leading actor disappears. It is up to Thea and the sisters to try and solve the mystery. The plot is simple and easy to follow - albeit easy to guess the next step, but then, it is a children's book, and my six year old was not able to anticipate it as well as I could. Although you expect a Greek tragedy, it has a happy ending ( YAY !). I do not want to give away too much of the story so will not say much more! It is a well written book for the most part - and even though it is fiction - gives factual information - which for Miss 6 was great - as we used that as a stepping stone for research and exploration together.

The book itself is well made - no missing or loose pages, the illustrations are well suited, bright and fun, and my 3.5 yr old was able to decipher little bits from them alone, which - for an early reader, is wonderful.

I have really enjoyed this book and am glad to know there are a lot more in the series, as well as the Geronimo ones too. My girls ( and boy when he is older ) will absolutely be reading these - and I would not hesitate to gift them for birthdays and Christmas ( in fact have already purchased the same one and gifted it away! )

Thank you Scholastic for upholding great kids books for future generations!

We were lucky enough to get a book from the Geronimo Stilton books to review last year and the kids loved it so much that they were borrowing the books and I got them some for Christmas. We were lucky enough to get a copy of this to review this round of allocations and as soon as my four year old spied it in my box of goodies, she was pulling it out and very carefully looking through every page of the book. When my five year old and seven year old saw it, they to had to have a good, careful look through the whole book before shoving it in my face, requesting, nay, more demanding, that I read it to them.

This book takes us to Greece, and whilst there, a couple of different places withing Greece. I liked that it was a small introduction to the area and it's great depth of history, even better is the small bits and pieces here and there that give facts and information about the area etc. the only irritating part about it was that in a couple of places it was put under an incomplete sentence, so it would through me off beat for a moment, but we'd skip those parts and we read them through after we'd finished the main storyline.

The story itself is good and it follows a simple enough plot, nothing new, but suits the overall theme well, rather ironic that there is a play that is a Greek tragedy (though it has a happy ending) and the events outside of the play mirror it in many ways. The illustrations are eyecatching, vibrant and kept the kids attention easily. All in all, another good addition to the series and my kids are breathing on my neck in anticipation of me handing the book back to them (and not asking for it back).
