Pig could not be happier. Life with the vegetarian farmers is perfect and best of all he has a new friend Kitty. Kitty is a fellow vegetarian, she purrs over Pig's every move, laughing at his jokes and encouraging him to fart as much as he can. She even gave him his new diary.
Of course, only Duck can see Kitty for the cunning, jealous, killing cat she is. Pig will not believe she is up to something until he has eaten the farmers' entire prize crop and is halfway to the pie factory.

The other day, my daughter skipped into the house from school. It was nice to see her so happy, but I soon realised why. "Where is your homework?" I enquired. "Oh, whoopsy (she didn't look sorry at all!) I forgot it!". So I sat her down and I gave her this book. I told her she would read until I was happy. She was deeply unimpressed that she was being made to read. Even more so because this is a novel and she only reads school readers.
So, she started out being very hesitant. She wouldn't look at the words and tried to bargain with me. But I was adamant. I knew she'd be able to read at least some of it, and I thought it would be great for her to try. Once she read the first line, she was pretty much away. She read two or three pages before asking for a break.
Since then, we have been reading it together. I did the lion's share of the reading, but she enjoyed reading a page here and there for me. The fonts change between characters in the book, though mainly the font is Pig's one. His is great, really easy to read print and it has the correct "a" for new readers. Kitty's font is very flowery, and a bit more challenging. Duck's font is very bold. Cow gets mixed up with her words a lot and then I had to put on a few funny accents too. The pictures are quite simple line drawings in black on white pages, but they are great. They add to the story and allow you to picture the fun and build on it with your mind.
This book is hugely funny. If your kid likes fart jokes, this is definitely going to be a winner with them. There is also lots of inventing and Pig is very funny even when he doesn't mean to be. Poor Piggy Wiggy, he is not too bright, but he has good friends and an exciting adventure. This is a good book, a good price and I am certain we will revisit it when my toddler is a bit older and can enjoy the silliness as well.
