This was a movie that my kids saw sitting on the shelf and asked if they could watch it over and over, so we finally gave in and rented it and subsequently bought it on DVD. The kids wanted to watch it because of the aliens, the robot and the alien dog on the cover. For myself, I loved the twist on the typical alien stranded on Earth and made it a human stranded and trying to survive on the alien planet, plus the baby 'Alien' dog was delightful and I loved that nod to a famous movie.
This is a fun plot and I do love the switching everything around, then there is the fact that all the aliens look like they're stuck in Earth's 1950's when it came to movies, the nod to lovers lane and the clothing that all the characters are wearing in this movie. The voice actors all do a goo job, I didn't even realize that it was Dwayne Johnson voicing the astronaut. Everything in this movie works so well together, the actors, the plot, the lines, right down to the music.
The kids really do enjoy this movie and we had to play it for movie night with my mother, so it worked out to be a great family film.
