Product reviews...
When we moved into our property there was a pretty "had it" looking BBQ left behind from the previous tenants I had intended on cleaning it up but had never got around to the tedious task of scrubbing it, when I saw the Selley's BBQ tough up for review I thought it would be perfect and a great opportunity to get around to the task that I had been dreading!!
The instructions were simple and straight forward, Fantastic! Spray onto surface, leave and wipe, I was sceptical as the BBQ was not in the best condition but I had nothing to loose. I got to work. I thought I would definitely have to put in some elbow grease but it wiped away the grease and grime with ease! Perfectl! The BBQ was looking fantastic already!
I would recommend the Selley's BBQ Tough Grease and Grime Cleaner to anybody that would listen. It did all it said it would do, met and exceeded my expectations and all with great ease! The grungy, grimy BBQ that had once occupied the corner of the garage had been bought to life and now the family that had been ignoring it all wanted to pull it out and use it, it even had an outing to the river!
Great product and it will regularly feature our summer shopping list!
Over summer we have plenty of barbeques so the bbq can certainly get a bit dirty, to me cleaning the bbq is like cleaning the oven one of the worst jobs in the world but seen as my partner likes to claim the bbq cooking I figure he should take on the bbq cleaning too. We do roughly clean the bbq before each use but usually a quick wet down and a bit of spray n wipe rather than thorough cleaning so our bbq was long over due for a good scrub.
The first thing we did was read the instructions so we got best results. It says to use it on a warm bbq so we heated the barbeque up first and let it cool down for a few minutes before getting stuck in. We spayed a generous amount on to the barbeque plates and cover and waited for it to do it's magic. It did say on the instructions to use the bbq wipes to wipe it down but we didn't have any so had to use a thick chux cloth. I feel we may have had better results if we had of had the bbq tough wipes to use alongside the spray.
What we found when we wiped the barbeque clean was that it came up cleaner but it didn't remove all the built up grime so will maybe get better after a couple of repeat treatments, From one use I can't say it did that much of a better job then our regular cleaning method but the bbq was clean so that's all that matters. Our bbq is quite old now and does have a lot of built up grime and even some rust on the plates so it is not the easiest bbq to bring up clean so for this reason I will not mark the effectiveness down to badly as a lot of the reason is that out bbq is old and tired.
The thing I did like about this is unlike oven cleaners it wasn't a harsh chemical so the scent did not give me a headache like oven cleaner does and after rinsing the bbq off with some water I felt it was definitely safe to cook food on. When I clean the oven I feel like I can't cook in it for a few days as the scent of the cleaner overpowers the food. This you can use the bbq straight away with no worries. All in all a good product and I would like to see if repeat treatments bring it up any better,
Cleaning the BBQ is one of those jobs that gets forgotten about before it is so horrible! My husband loves cooking on the BBQ but more often than not, the BBQ is lucky enough to get a bit of a scrape down and left to its own devices. As a result, there is quite a bit of buildup which forms on the plate and grills.
Recently, we were lucky enough to have the Tough Wipes to review. We enjoyed using them and the certainly made the job of cleaning the BBQ much easier. At the time, I thought that we could do with something a bit stronger to clean the BBQ better, considering it was in an unloved state. The Selleys BBQ Tough Grease & Grime Cleaner was just what was required for the job. The trigger bottle is easy to use. The spray is used on a warm hotplate or grill. I found that the best way to do this was to cook the food, use the BBQ tool to get rid of the excess food etc on the plate and then leave the BBQ to cool down a bit while we ate our meal. While the dishes were being done, we gave the BBQ a spray and then came back to it a few minutes later. The spray worked very well with the Tough Wipes. I think that it is necessary to have access to both products in order to do a satisfactory job. The existing buildup will still take a while to clean up properly but I think that there is a significant improvement already.
I would recommend taking note of the information on the back of the bottle as it states that you shouldn't use it on certain parts of the BBQ. As one would expect, the bottle needs to be kept out of reach of children. This is the only issue for me as I think we would be more likely to use the product if it was kept inside the BBQ cabinet. Obviously this isn't an option, so we will have to make a bit more of an effort.
My hope is that if we have the Selleys Tough Wipes and The Selleys BBQ Tough Grease & Grim Cleaner on hand, that the BBQ will be given the care that it deserves. I think that the products together do a great job and my intention is to clean the BBQ up to a great state and keep it that way! My husband thinks I should volunteer more often.
I never clean my BBQ, it was always the husbands job, but since being single I have to do it and I hate the job. I swear its worse than cleaning the toilet. I found with using my BBQ I had to use the spray right away so I didn't really get time to enjoy my dinner sort of thing. So I would let it cool down which doesn't work either as it works better on a warm/hot BBQ. Turning it on again later makes effort to wait for it to heat up and at that point I no longer want to clean it.
I like the idea of the spray and when it is hot it works great, I have just got to work out another way of doing it so I'm not wasting time or gas, but again I might just have to suck it up and turn it on again later on. The first time I used it my BBQ hadn't been cleaned for a while so a big build up and a good scrub was needed but this was required. I also liked that I wasn't breathing in really bad fumes like some cleaners.
You don't need that much on it, so the price seems to be reasonable and I will be happy to keep this on hand.
I was already a user of other Selleys products prior to being sent this spray to review. We were regularly cleaning our bbq (and oven) with Selleys BBQ tough wipes which I really really liked, so I was quite keen to try another of their products to see if it was as good as the one we were already using and already a fan of.
Selleys BBQ tough grease and grime remover is awesome. I was impressed from our very first use. The bbq came up an absolute dream. Possibly even better than the wipes and I personally really like the wipes a lot. Although I use them more on my oven now than the actual bbq . The tough grease and grime remover just seems a stronger choice, more so when delayed in cleaning the bbq after use.
The spray bottle is easy to use with clear easy follow instructions and its label is in good strong/tough colours to match. Its not rocket science to use, pretty much just spray on and wipe off and the grease and grime just wipes away. It really does an awesome job. Its not an over bearing icky chemical smell to it either making it quite pleasant to use and as an added bonus you don't need heaps and heaps of spray for it to be effective.
its priced at just shy of ten dollars which is pretty pricey really but I think for the amount you use per clean the one bottle would possibly last most families much of the bbq season. However if you are a regular bbq entertainer with a big fancy bbq you might find the bottle doesnt last as long. I do highly recommend you team with the bbq tough wipes as using both products will ensure an all over clean grease free bbq to be proud of.
Well I am embarrassed to say that our barbecue was used pretty much every day over the summer with little more than a good scrap down and lots of oil so it was well over due for good clean.
I read the instructions and decided the whole having to slightly warm the barbecue wasn't going to work for me so given it had been sitting in the sun and was pretty hot to touch that that would have to do.
I gave the barbecue a scrap down and then sprayed on rather liberally a good coating of the Selleys BBQ Tough Grease & Grime Cleaner. When I felt there was enough on there I went in search of an old tooth brush and an old cloth and some warm water. By the time I had done that the spray had had a good few minutes to soak in. Rather interestingly the grease was more obvious as it had become a creamy colour. I scrapped the barbecue plate down again and then took it off the barbecue and gave it a good scrub with a toothbrush around the edges and then washed the plate and rack down with water just to remove any cleaning residue.
I returned the plate and rack to the barbecue and started it up just as hubby appeared. "wow what happened to the barbecue?" he said as I rather smugly said "oh well thought it could do with a quick clean!" I am really impressed. This remover worked wonders with very little effort required and is the cleanest it has been for a very long time. I like to think that as long as I use this every few nights the Barbie will never get back to the state it was in and I won't ever have to be embarrassed again at how gross it can get.
A fantastic product that is extremely easy to use and very effective. I would definitely recommend this and will continue to use it. I will now look out for the cleaning clothes as they look even easier still.
I was lucky enough to be given some of this BBQ cleaner to review as our BBQ is always covered in grime and I'm always wondering if we can get it looking a bit better. However I firstly decided to use it on a fairly new (but still well used) BBQ during a beach holiday this last weekend. Although the BBQ hadn't had a chance to build up years of grime, it was going to get a good workout with about 16 people for dinner each night.
Firstly though I had trouble convincing the guys in charge of the BBQ to use it... I got grumbles about all the flavour being in the grime and that BBQs don't really need to be cleaned that much. And to be honest I do tend to agree with them as that's the way I've always used BBQs too.
The spray needs to be used on a warm BBQ which means that it can't be used the minute the food is cooked (we tried but the spray evaporates to too quickly) but once you've finished dinner and socialising you might find the BBQ is too cool. Therefore we found it was easiest to give it a few minutes heat later on when we were ready to clean.
With the newish BBQ, the spray seemed to work OK but I'm not convinced it's necessary - a good scrape with the BBQ tools after cooking, then again with the scraper and hot oil next time it's used seems far easier.
A few days later we tried it out on our grimy BBQ. As per the instructions, it needs a good scrub if it is that dirty and we found that they are right - just the super cloth and spray wasn't enough. Working on a small patch - the spray and scrubber did kind of work, but it would have taken a mammoth effort to get it all off.
I see this suiting people who have a new BBQ that they want to keep grime free, or for someone who has time to really get to work on a older BBQ with built up grime, and then keep it grime free. However there aren't many cleaners like this that I know of that are suitable for food surfaces, so it definitely has it's place in the market.
I was given this spray to use at the perfect time - my BBQ had just been returned to me after being used for a family gathering. It was not in a very clean state (well then it wasn't clean before it went ). Our BBQ is rather old and been used quite a bit without a really good clean, so you could imagine the build up of grease and grime.
I thought it was worth trying the Selleys BBQ Tough Grease & Grime Cleaner but was not expecting it to do much, as I thought the BBQ build up would be there to stay. I warmed the plate a little, sprayed on the spray and waited. It didn't look like it was doing much so I sprayed a 2nd and a 3rd time (I think I may of had the plate a little too warm as the spray just seemed to evaporate). By the 3rd spray however I could see the magic happening, the grease was moving.
I decided to give it a quick scrub with a dish brush as the grease was really thick. I could see that the grease was moving and I could start to see a different colour emerging from underneath. I grabbed a damp cloth and wiped the surface, the grease came away with ease. Even on the grill.
I was amazed - in less than 10mins I had a clean BBQ. The photo probably doesn't quite show how dirty the BBQ was but you can definitely see the difference - especially on the grill. I was also surprise how the cloth that was caked in black grease came clean very easily under hot water. Now that it has had a deep clean I will be continuing to use this spray to keep it clean and will also be looking at the wipes as an alternative to the spray.
