I currently flat with two other males in a house that was built in around the 1940's. Men being men, our hygiene and cleanliness does tend to ebb and flow. Usually involving a good and proper clean when then place gets to such a bad state that even we can't stand it anymore. The toilet is one of those areas that get's neglected even moreso, due to the unsavoury things that it is put through, due to our horrendously unhealthy bachelor diets.
So a powerful cleaner is very important when it comes down to our limited cleaning schedules. two of us in the flat are environmentally aware, and will use environmentally friendly products whenever viable, so I was certainly keen to find out how well this product works.
Aesthetically, the packaging is far less garish than other brands of toilet cleaner. This product is much more basic, subtle, and looks far less "chemical". I decided to try opening the bottle using just brute strength, and found that a little bit of force could reasonably easily bypass the "child-proof" top. So I would still recommend keeping this product far out of reach of any children.
It is immediately apparent that the cleaner is very fragrant and sweet smelling, and smells quite natural. The bottle works the same as other brands, and has a rather small opening, which provides more pressure to get right under the rim of the toilet seat. The liquid is clear and translucent, which means you have to pay a little more attention to where you are squirting it, but it again makes the product seem less artificial.
Interestingly it created a reasonable amount of lather, which released even more scents, and made cleaning it more bearable as it overpowered any untoward lingering smells from previous uses. There was some staining, that remained after the cleaning, however, this staining had survived many other scrubbings with many other products, so I cannot really place blame with the product.
Overall, I found that the small opening meant I had better accuracy and reach with this product, and ended up using far less of the product than expected (increasing the lifespan) I enjoyed the smell, and it gave the toilet a shine, that I usually can only get with the harshest of bleaches. So this is a product that I will certainly be looking for in the future.
So not something I thought I would ever want to review about, but toilet cleaner is an important part of our day to day cleaning in the bathrooms. Since toilets NEED to be cleaned otherwise they stink I thought I would give earthwise toilet cleaner a go as I love earthwise products. It was easy enough to get into the bottle and thats saying something cause I hate trying to get into bottles.
Reading the back of the bottle another thing I never do, but thought I would actually pay attention this time around, it says pour into the toilet up under the rim and leave for 5-10mins. I gave this a go, and well came to the conclusion this will not work with you have two little ones that want to use the toilet as soon as you put the cleaner into the toilet. Once they flushed the toilet did smell good but it wasnt clean so I had to start again when they were asleep. Leaving it for 5-10mins and then giving it a scrub then flushing the toilet actually looked and smelt clean, I love the smell of pine so having my toilet smell like that made the wait worth it so to speak.
Its simple to use, as long as my kids don't want the toilet at the time. The price isnt too bad considering it actually leaves the toilet smelling like pine and not wees and the bowl clean. It wont last long in our house as I like to clean the toilet ever 2nd day as my kids always seem to forgot to flush their toilet and it stinks alot. I would go back to this one.
I love Earthwise products and use several of them in my house but I hadn't tried the toilet cleaner until now and I can safely say I am kicking myself about that one right about now. I have never found a quicker and easier toilet cleaner to use. The fact it smells really good is and leaves your bathroom smelling fresh and clean is an added bonus as well.
Reading the bottle before using it the instructions said to simply pour under the rim, leave for 5 or 10 minutes, then brush the entire bowl and flush. As the bathroom was due for a good going over I poured the cleaner under the rim and left it while I did the rest of the bathroom. I was impressed with how easy it was to pour, the bottle is designed for ease of use allowing you to get the cleaner just where you needed it to go. The cleaner is also a lot thicker than a lot of others so it didn't run down straight away. After washing out the bath and shower I went back to the toilet. As quick brush around and I had a nice clean toilet. It really was as easy as the bottle said!
Now I have discovered eathwise toilet cleaner there is no turning back. It's so simple and easy to use (anyone could do it even the kids or the husband!) I have recently done a course which covered the effect of what we put into our water systems has on the environment so anything that is a better choice for the environment is a big selling point for me. Earthwise has another winning product in my opinion great formulation, lovely smell and awesome bottle design.
Okay, I might be the odd one out here, but of all housework I enjoy doing the toilets the most. It's not that I love it, but it's the main housework I will do. For me a clean toilet makes me feel like I did something about the state of the house. I know that Earthwise do all sorts of products and we have converted to their products for the most part. I have their dish washing liquid, and their laundry liquid always on hand. Air freshener is already in my kitchen and bathroom, so I was pretty confident that this product would impress me.
The branding is in line with Earthwise. You have that great clean look, with the leaf motifs. It stands out, which is good for finding it at the supermarket. The bottle is slightly different to other toilet cleaners on the market, but the spout is a good angle for getting under the rim. You don't have to manipulate the bottle to make sure the liquid gets to the spout either. I felt like I had a bit more control over the aim too.
We have two toilets in our house, so I was able to use it upstairs and downstairs. I liked the way it was easy to apply into the bowl, under the rim and around the top of the bowl as well. It went on well and seemed to stick to the sides a bit which is good in my opinion. If it all just slides straight to the water, you don't feel like it will lather properly around the rim.
Clean up was really easy on both toilets. The scent of pine and tea tree oil leaves your toilet smelling clean. There's a hint of citrus too. I've used it several times now and I really like the bottle style and the smell. I will definitely be getting more of this when I run out. It's another winner from the team at Earthwise.
A toilet cleaner that smells nice and cleans 99.9% of germs? Is as easy as swirling it around with ease from the bottle and leaving for 5-ish minutes and then giving it a quick scrub with a brush? This is the best toilet cleaner I have tried in a very long time!
I like an extra clean toilet bowl, and so I clean it every day but I find the cleaners I have tried just haven't been able to give me the same results that I want (and old house with a toilet bowl that wasn't looked after as well as I like to try!). Even trying bleach ones just didn't seem to work as well and were very over powering! The Earthwise Pine and Tea Tree cleaner smells so good, I don't mind using them every day.
An added bonus is the eco-friendly formula with biodegradable surfactants. Knowing that all the water that gets flushed down the toilet eventually reaches the sea, using some toilet cleaners that are meant to work did concern me, but not with this! We use a lot of Earthwise products in our house, including surface cleaners, washing powders/liquids and baby shampoo etc. They never fail to impress, have a variety of different products, affordable for something that works and smell great!
I must confess I hate cleaning; bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, washing and least of all scrubbing! I would like to arrive home every day and the housework fairy has arrived, waved their magic wand and its all done!! What a wish ah? But I must admit if anything is clean in my house, its my toilet. So when the opportunity came up to review Earthwise's new Toilet Cleaner, I can honestly say it was the product made for me.
The first thing I noticed was the bottle was opaque, you could actually see how much cleaner was in (or not in) the bottle; so many times I've gone to clean the toilet and because you can not see through any other toilet cleaner's bottles, the blasted bottle is empty (or close to it)! Frustrating, when you just want to get the job done and you've got your cleaning fairy groove on. I then studied the label and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the cleaner was phosphate, nitrate, chlorine and ammonia free, wow! How good is that? I eagerly opened the bottle and took a big sniff, and it was a fantastic pine smell that just smelt, well.......Clean!
Following the instructions, I duly coated the bowl with the cleaner, left for 5 mins and then scrubbed, and I can gladly say, the finished job was a huge success! The toilet bowl was shining white and the whole bathroom smelt divine! The cleaner was easy to use with a no fuss child-friendly cap and an easy to squeeze bottle.
I would recommend this cleaner to all, it is very user/earth friendly, NZ made and best of all, does a fantastic job!
Earthwise is one of my favourite brands and I use them in most rooms of my home. I am new to trying the toilet cleaner and was quite pleased to be chosen to review this from KIWIreviews! Lets face it toilet cleaning is not a favourite past time but is something that has to be done. Having a shiny pleasant smelling bathroom is some what an accomplishment as a stay at home Mum!
The scent is very pleasant. The citrus is stronger than the Tea Tree and the pleasant scent does linger for some time after cleaning the toilet. The nozzle gets under the rim easily and I like that the fluid itself is not coloured as some other toilet cleaners are. I like that Earthwise uses natural disinfectants!
The label is basic. I like that! It is simple yet looks great and is informative! Every piece of information that you may need to know is easy to locate and readily available. It is great that this is safe for septic tanks and biodegradable. Even the packaging is recyclable! It feels good knowing we are doing our small part to care for the earth even if it is by using a chemical free toilet cleaner!
Thanks to KIWIreviews introducing me to Earthwise products, I am now a huge fan of there products and have 90% of my household cleaning products in the Earthwise brand. Not only do I find that Earthwise products smell great, they also work well and the fact that they are environmentally friendly is definitely a added bonus. When I had run out of toilet cleaner there was no second guessing, or need to linger around the supermarket shelves as I decided on what product to buy as the Earthwise Toilet Cleaner - Pine and Tea Tree jumped straight into my trolley.
Although I wasn't actually to sold on the sound of the scent to begin with, I was happy with my decision once I arrived home with the product as it was really quite divine, and in my opinion it didn't actually smell to me like pine or tea tree but more fruity. The cap was easy to remove from the bottle and the bottle itself was easy to hold and squeeze around the rim of the toilet, the only downfall was that the product was clear and so if you weren't paying attention it was hard to know if you had missed applying the cleaner to any parts of the toilet. I left the cleaner sitting for about 10 minutes before I flushed the toilet for the first time and I thought that this was sufficient time as the smell afterwards was pleasant and the toilet bowl looked super clean afterwards. The smell was pleasant and could be smelt slightly for the entire day.
I love this product, and knowing that it is environmentally friendly and does a great job is enough to make me by this toilet cleaner over other brands from now on. I can't recommend it enough.
I am a big fan of Earthwise products but haven't really got into using their toilet cleaner. But with being happy with everything else I've tried in the range, and with a commitment to looking after the environment, I was keen to give this a go.
The smell as labelled, appealed to me as I strongly avoid anything that sounds like it will have floral or sickly sweet scents as these make me feel quite nauseous and to be honest kind of make me think of old people's houses! The fresh sounding nature of pine and tea tree sounded like it would be something I'd happily have lingering in my home.
When using it, I first noticed the clear colour which surprised me. At first it was a bit of getting used to, as I couldn't clearly see where I had squirted, so I may have ended up using more than I needed to. But upon using it subsequent times, it's very easy to get used to and it really adds to the clean fresh and environmentally friendly nature of the product. I was pleased to see that it bubbles up a bit when flushing for the first time too - you can tell the toilet is cleaned and fresh.
The smell didn't play havoc with my senses or system, but at the same time wasn't overly strong either, so wasn't overpowering for anyone walking down the hallway after I've been on a cleaning session! I'd happily keep using this, and will be looking out for it in the supermarket when it comes time to replace it. It seems to be a bit more expensive than other brands, but it's not over and above what I'd happily pay for a good quality, environmentally toilet cleaner.
We have a biocycle septic system in my home so have to really be cautious about what products we use to clean the toilet. I need something that is strong enough to kill germs but not too strong that it kills the healthy bacteria in our septic system. There are no nitrates, chlorine, or ammonia (bleach) in Earthwise Toilet Cleaner and it still does the job!
I tried Earthwise Toilet Cleaner a few months ago when it was on Special at the supermarket and have been extremely impressed with it. The pine and tea tree smell is divine and is a lovely change from the plain old lavender or citrus you usually have to choose from! When using Earthcare Toilet Cleaner I can clean the toilet in the morning and leave it for the whole day which makes the bathroom smell lovely and gets rid of any unpleasant smells! I would never do this with other cleaners as their fragrances would be overpowering.
I also like the fact that the liquid is clear so doesn't stain the bowl when left for longer than the recommended 5 - 10 minutes. Earthwise Toilet Cleaner is reasonably priced compared to other toilet cleaners and cheaper than most when on special at the supermarket. I can't recommend this cleaner too highly enough and urge you to try it, not only to help care for the environment but to try a quality cleaner.
"AWESOME! Time to go scrub the toilet clean!" Said no-one... ever. Let's face it... watering the lemon tree may be a bit socially unacceptable once you move out of the student flat... but no-one ever made you grab a scrubbing brush to give the tree a once-over each week. Still, we have indoor plumbing, and it needs to look clean and smell clean. That's where this product wins out over most, if not all, of it's competitors.
Utterly lacking in caustic chemicals, but packed full of natural cleaning goodness, this is a toilet cleaner I am happy to use for environmental reasons. The fact that it helps make the chore of scrubbing the bowl a lot easier is why I am happy to use it for selfish reasons. The fact that it smells of pine... is why I am not quite as happy to use it as I could be, for personal reasons. It's just me, I'm not a fan of the scent of pine - nothing really to consider as a 'product fault', which is why it still scores really highly from me, but I kind of wish it came in different varieties. I'd love a nice, zesty lemon/lime version more, maybe.
The bent nozzle - made famous by a cartoon aquatic avian mascot from a competing brand - is really good at getting the cleaner aimed up and under the rim to reach all those nasty bugs lurking in the shadows, and it's fluid enough to run down the bowl, yet also just thick enough to really hold on and hang around to soak those tough "stains" for a while and loosen their grip on the porcelain. I was really impressed to read on the bottle that this also works well if you squirt a dose or two into the cistern to give a deeper, longer clean. Nice added bonus. (Have you SEEN what the inside of the cistern can look like? "Emergency Water Supply"... #YeahRight -shudder-
Overall, a really good product that I will peg my nose and continue using for the regular cleans. Love the results, so will gladly tolerate the smell. Everyone else who visits my house and uses "the facilities" seems to find it acceptable, which is good enough for me.
I had never thought about toilet cleaner as having an expiry date, but I guess it makes sense if you are dealing with a product that is designed to be environmentally friendly. Longevity in a cleaning product must mean that it does not break down readily and that in turn can lead to pollution. Even the container is recyclable, another plus for me.
I have used it for the last fortnight and it has done the job it is designed for, bubbling away in the background while I am at work and de-gunging every bit as efficiently as harsher, less pure cleaners. The bathroom smells fresh; there is no unpleasant public toilet chemical odour to offend the nose. Whatever commercial cleaners use may be effective, but it is not the sort of smell you want in your own home.
I have pets, and one of the things that always concerns me is the way they sometimes think the toilet bowl is their own personal drinking fountain. Yes, I know it is gross, but it is certainly a fact of life that some dogs (and cats) don't have the issue with it that we humans do. In the past I have been aware that they might help themselves to a drink and accidentally poison themselves on toilet cleaner. And although I try to remember to keep the lid closed so that can't happen, the reality is that I sometimes forget.
Animals do not like the smell of pine (it is toxic to dogs), and cats absolutely detest the smell of oranges. I spray orange oil beside small plants when I don't want them to dig them up! Although this toilet cleaner does not list orange oil as one of the ingredients, it does contain citric acid and tea tree oil, and the result is that my cats absolutely hate it! None of the animals will go near the toilet once I have spayed under the rim so I am no longer wary of not closing the lid.
I will buy this product in the future as a preference. I like everything about it - the upmarket packaging, the lower impact on the environment, the efficiency with which it cleans, and the pleasant smell. And my pets can just use their own drinking bowls and leave mine alone!
I am nowhere near as pedantic as my mother when it comes to cleaning the toilet, she makes it a daily chore - where as I am more every other day or two and will not lose sleep if I have not cleaned it. I do appreciate a good clean toilet do not get me wrong but I do not pull my hair out like my mother does if it is dirty. She even has three or four toilet cleaners that she has on the go at one time where as I am happy with just the one.
Looking at the bottle it is not that visually appealing, but on reading the information on the back it covers all the basis and makes up for the lack of decoration. I do like that is safe for septic tank safe and contains biodegradable surfactants which makes it feel better to use for the environment which is always a bonus.
Upon using it I found the head fitted beautifully under the rim and let out an aroma I could not quite put my fingers on. It did smell chemically but there was something else. I have found that it leaves the bowl nice and clean and I do not need to scrub like I do with other cleaners. It seems to do its job without much fuss. The smell does not stick around for as long as I like though but it always looks clean. The price is a little steep and with the benefits to the universe I would consider paying for it, if I found it on sale. But I am impressed at the cleanliness of my bowl and so would my mum be.
I have to say, cleaning the toilets isn't really my favourite household chore, but it is a chore for me, so I ha a very good use for this stuff, and I have to say that I'm glad I chose to take this product on for review. My family has found Earthwise products to be of a much better quality and effectiveness than other commercial products, this one didn't stray from that trend.
The smell is the first thing I want to comment on. The smell of this stuff is quite wonderful, despite being "Lime and Tea Tree", this stuff smelled an awful lot like Yellow Mellow, that lemon soft drink, so the citrus was certainly noticeable with this stuff. In terms of effectiveness, I think that this product excels at this. using normal toilet cleaner, out toilet still got a bit bad, I mean most of the mould was gone, but there was still some discoloration present, and the smell still lingered.
When I used this stuff, I found the bowl of the toilet much easier to clean, and it had a much nicer smell afterwards. The cleaner was easy to apply, and it came off in the flush very well, but that was after leaving the cleaner to bond to the grime for about 5 minutes, and then giving it a quick scrub. Overall, I have to say that this is definitely a worthwhile product, and it is quite affordable as well. I would highly recommend this product over any other toilet cleaner out there. Enjoy!
I have said this in previous toilet cleaner reviews but the toilet is probably my most obsessed over part of cleaning. I can't stand an unclean toilet so always make sure mine is clean and fresh. I have used a lot of different toilet cleaners and am quite fussy when it comes to the fragrances. I wasn't aware that Earthwise did a toilet cleaner so when I received some of this when winning a year's supply of Earthwise products I was very impressed.
The product uses ingredients that kill germs naturally such as pine and tea tree and the smell is definitely amazing I love the fresh scent of pine and tea tree and when I have cleaned the toilet it definitely smells clean to boot. It is quite a powerful scent so the whole room becomes fresh smelling. Hmmmm love the smell of a clean toilet! The website suggests putting a small amount in the toilet cistern which I have been trying and have been quite happy with as it fragrances the toilet even longer.
All you do to clean your toilet is squirt some of this under the rim right the way around the toilet and then wait 5 minutes before giving it a good scrub with a brush to remove any dirt. It soaps up quite nicely so you can get the whole bowl nice and clean, and when you flush it leave bubbles in the toilet too! I have found I don't really need to scrub that much as I clean my toilet regularly and have been as said above putting some in the cistern too.
I am very happy with this toilet cleaner and it is quite a reasonable price too so I am happy to stick with buying this. It is more expensive than the likes of 'Duck' but I like the fact it uses natural disinfectants and I also like that is is safe to use for septic tanks. Living in the country we have septic tanks so if I can do anything to prolong the expensive job of clearing the septic tank I will. Besides it does a great job of cleaning the toilet so I don't see any reason to need to change!
