It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Embraced by millions around the world, Mary Poppins is one of Disney's most enchanting fantasies and the motion-picture hit that made "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" a household word! Julie Andrews, in her Oscar winning performance, stars as the lovable nanny who soars out of the skies and into the hearts of everyone she encounters. Toting a carpetbag full of magical adventures, Mary and her fun-loving sidekick Bert (Dick Van Dyke) deliver endless joy and surprises to a troubled family. Mary Poppins remains an unparalleled blend of animation and live action, complete with an Oscar winning musical score (Best Song for 'Chim Chim Cher-ee').

I have watched this movie a few times over the years. I can't remember why I watched it the first time but I guess it was due to my parents renting it on video and got hooked on the catchy songs and lyrics and strange storyline.
I know that we all tried had a competition to try and spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and out of a group of us, none of us could without bursting into laughter. The songs were great, I often find myself humming along to Chim Chim Cher-ee even after all these years, and after a few times we could sing along but I never tried any of the strange dances.
The story is easy to follow, the parents don't spend enough time with the kids and the kids manage to chase away heaps of nannies and some how the advert gets magically changed to the kids list of requirements instead of the parents. Mary Poppins sure is one strange nanny but she gets the job done.
Julie Andrews does a wonderful job as Mary Poppins, not sure how she kept such a straight face during some of the scenes. The special effects were great considering how long ago this movie was made, I would have loved to be able to jump into a painting on the sidewalk and go for an adventure.
I would watch this movie again and again as it has a great story line and fantastic acting and the songs get stuck inside your head.
This has to be one of the must watch movies for anybody and I have lost count of just how many times I have watched this, weather it be with my mum, dad, family, kids or just on my own and naturally it was one I simply had to own on DVD.
A family, with a strict father and a mother who doesn't really stand up to her husband but is marching etc for women's rights, the two children have managed to scare off every nanny, so decide to write a list of what they want in a nanny and lo and behold Mary Poppins arrives, not only caring for the children and changing them for the better but also the entire family along the way. Watching it again recently, after having watched "Saving Mr. Banks" it puts the movie in a different light, though I would be interested to know if that is fact.
The special effects in this are well done, even lasting today, and still brings lots of delight still to me, and my children as well, they watched it a year or so ago and weren't interested but watched it again in the last year and really enjoyed it and the have watched it a couple of times since. I can sing every song in this and anytime the kids moan about a fowl tasting medicine I instantly sing "Just a Spoonful of Sugar" in my head.
A movie that has stood the test of time, will continue to do so and will always have a spot on my shelf.
