Grasshopper's Week product reviews

Proud to promote NZ products"Tree, what day is it today?" asks Grasshopper.' So begins his discovery of the days of the week in an exciting new way. His wise old friend Tree reveals each day to Grasshopper as a unique and wonder-filled experience. They are joined by a host of lovable visitors who crash, snore, wiggle and sing their way into Grasshopper's week. The characters are based on New Zealand native wildlife, adding another level of interest to the story.

Author Tania Norfolk says she is inspired by the immediacy of the child's world: 'Renaming the days of the week within the story is a way of reflecting this.' Grasshopper's Week highlights the wonder in the everyday and the natural world around us.

The book is the first collaboration for the sister/brother team. A unique and heart-warming view of the days of the week, with beautiful illustrations, Grasshopper's Week is a timeless picture book to delight young children and warm the hearts of 'big kids' too.

I loved the emotional way this story is told, it is so touching and the expressive words are so mind blowing, I will forever look at the days of the week in a different way. Half way through the story my daughter asked me what day of the week it was, although she knew the answer, I played along and called it 'boogie day' which both girls though was hilarious.

The grasshopper asks the wise tree what day it is every day for a week and what the tress replies with is just magical. The joy that follows each day and how much the grasshopper learns is inspirational. I loved the descriptive words used and the explanation of the smells it made you realise how magical this world really is. This taught my youngest daughter way more about her days of the week then learning the right words ever could. How each day is a gift and you never know what it is going to bring.

I would of liked the pictures to be a little more sharper though instead of the floating ways they are, but I guess it goes with the story. The pictures of the grasshoppers face with its wide smile told its own story - you could see his bliss. What an amazing way to look at life's truly remarkable experiences, stroking a moth with its velvet coat, or listening to a Tui sing all day or dancing around a tree in the wild wind.

A breath taking book one I will carry with me and my children in the future to come.
