Fantasia 2000 product reviews

A semi-sequel to Disney's 1940 classic Fantasia which features the original film's most famous sequence - the Mickey Mouse adventure 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' - plus seven other all-new animated interpretations of classical music.

Highlights include the interwoven stories of a group of 1930s New Yorkers accompanied by Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue', the volcanic eruptions which illustrate Stravinsky's 'Firebird Suite', and the story of Noah, his ark, and his assistant Donald Duck, played out to the strains of Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance'

I watched the original Fantasia many times growing up, so when I heard that Fantasia 200 was coming out (I was 11 at the time) I quickly told my mum and we silmpy had ot go and see this on the big screen.

"Symphony #5" - the battle between good and evil with colorful abstract triangles, unmistakably based on butterflies, being attacked by black triangles in an ethereal setting didn't really do anything for me at all, but I do love the music. "Pines of Rome" - a family of whales fly around in the air, I really liked this one and it is one of my kids favourite clips. "Rhapsody in Blue" - several stories of unhappy people are told and intersect in New York City. I LOVE this clip, it is one of my top two, the animation is perfect for the music, the 'story' fits in perfectly, it all goes so well.

"Piano Concerto #2, Allegro, Opus 102" (The Steadfast Tin Soldier) - a good clip but it wasn't anything I hadn't seen before and having never been a fan of the Steadfast Soldier and his story I am not fussed about it, but my kids really like it. "Carnival of the Animals, Finale" - my favourite clip out of them all, when I was 11 it was a perfect link to my childhood and now it is a perfect reminder, I could watch that clip over and over without a care in the world. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" - the only clip from the original Fantasia to show, having watched it a tonne of times prior to this it was a nice surprise to see it in here, however, it stops me from having a Fantasia marathon as I don't want to watch it twice in one day.

"Pomp and Circumstance" - is quite easily my children's favourite clip in the movie, it took a little getting used to associating the music with this, rather than graduation, but as they did a wonderful job it works out well. Based upon Noah's ark, with Donald and Daisy being separated, thinking the other died, always just missing each other before finding each other at the end.8. "Firebird Suite - is a lovely tale of life and death, done beautifully and I LOVE the nymph, so much so that she is my computer screen background now and again.

The introductions to each clip is fun, and some familiar names. My kids are 6, 4 and 2 and all enjoy it.
