One day my children came home from a friend's house talking about Shimmer and Shine, I of course had no idea what they were talking about, so off to Google I went. Shimmer and Shine are two genies who along with their friends have various adventures where they usually have to grant 3 wishes. When I saw there was a new DVD available to review, I quickly jumped at the chance to request it and hoped we would be chosen. When we saw the DVD in our review box we wasted no time to watch it.
While the DVD was starting I looked at the case, the front cover has the two genies in the front holding potion bottles, with a dragon and another person in the background. This DVD is called 'Magical Mischief' and includes a bonus episode of a show called 'Nella the Princess Knight' - another show I had never heard of. The back of the DVD case states there are 8 spellbinding tales of Shimmer and Shine, with the running time being approximately 91 minutes.
When the DVD started to play I was instantly captivated by the vibrant graphics. The genies and their friends appearance is cute and you can't help but keep watching. Throughout the DVD there are many adventures and I loved how the show highlighted some important themes such as kindness, friendship and working together to solve problems. The children weren't overly keen on the 'Nella the Princess Knight' episode.
The children enjoyed this DVD as did I, I believe it is best suited for ages approximately 3 years old to 8 years old, my 6 year old was mesmerized. We look forward to watching more Shimmer and Shine in the future.

An adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world - a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.
