Product reviews...
When I was a youngster, my family went on a holiday to the US. As part of the trip, we ended up checking out some of the more 'interesting' parts of Mexico, and eating traditional Mexican food. I fell in love with pretty much everything relating to Mexican food. I vividly recall my first taste of real Mexican guacamole - basically ripe avocado, sea salt, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers mashed together in a mortar, then a quick squeeze of lemon juice as it was dished into our tortillas. Pure bliss... and it's a recipe I have made for myself many, many times over the years since.
Hummus is a more recent addition to my menu choices, and not a big one... but I was intrigued when I discovered Fressure had blended these two quite disparate dishes into a single product. Each based in totally different regions, with utterly different cultures... and this Kiwi company blends them into something that really took me by surprise when I tried it. With a stunning texture - not too wet or chunky, but still with plenty of body and a great mouth-feel - and a rich tapestry of flavour where no one taste profile dominates... this must have taken a lot of trial and testing to get right!
I used this in some tortillas - the same spicy roasted chicken and salad recipe I had on that first fateful day in Mexico - and I was amazed. This was such a great addition, and it brought back some great memories, while still being something fresh and new in its own right. On nachos it was a hit with my family, and as a dip with corn chips it made a great snack.
Overall, I find myself struggling to find the words to adequately express my delight at this product. My only gripe with it is that there just wasn't enough for me. I wanted to have this as part of every meal, but just couldn't make it stretch that far. Still... there's always the shops over the road...
I have never tried guacamole before, but I have CERTAINLY never tried it in a hummus! I think that this was a very pleasant food product, and it made a very good dip for nacho chips as well. The dip was delicious, it had a good texture, and it was highly appealing to all my senses. I didn't end up using the hummus as a spread, but it was used as a dip. I was happy eating this with corn chips, so this would be a great item to have at a party.
I am a great lover of hummus, I always enjoyed having it whenever the stuff was around, so this dip was more enjoyable because of this. Just using imagination alone, I can think of several uses for this food item. For example, this hummus could be used as a dip, as a spread, as part of a soup or stew, a sauce, and several other uses. The fact that this dip is gluten-free means that it can be enjoyed by people who have allergies to such substances, which is always a good thing.
I loved the package design, it's compact, it's efficient, and the images on it present an important aspect with products: visual appeal. There isn't much else to say about this product, so I'll sum things up. The overall taste was quite good, I enjoyed eating it, and I think that it is a great product to have in the kitchen. I am unaware of what the price is, so I'll have to give this product a default 10/10 for that aspect. I hope that this product appeals to you as much as it did for me, as it really is a great food item. Enjoy!
I love Guacamole and I love hummus, so I was pretty sure this was going to be a winner for me. The colour of this spread was a good clean green avocado colour. I loved the packaging and the fact I didn't have to open and eat the whole lot at once. I opened one side and had this spread on some fresh baked bread, with some cheese and tomato.
The flavour of this spread is really clearly hummus. The texture and flavour of the chickpeas is obvious, and the avocado is there as well. There is also a fairly strong hit of garlic to this spread too. I enjoyed the flavour a lot, though the heat of the garlic was unusual to me. It's lucky that I enjoy garlic too. But for those who aren't big fans of garlic, this may be a turn off.
Overall, I really enjoyed this product. I think it would be great served with nacho chips, or rice crackers. A dollop of this on a wrap or burger would be fabulous too.
I made a Chipotle refried bean mince and added a generous dollop of the GuacHummus flavour on the top with some extra light philly. A few chives on top for garnish and that meal was done. The hot mince melded perfectly with the chickpea consistency hummus guac and sour cream style philly. All that potentially could have improved the meal was replating it onto some Doritos. I would imagine this would be amazing as a dip but we actually used the smooth Avocado spread as a dip.
Everyone in the house loved this flavour as we are all hummus fans. Again we could not specifically identify this flavour from the others if they were unboxed by sight alone, but that issue was negated when we used it all in one go haha. We found the packaging was easy to open and you do not need any knives or scissors.
This flavour is our household favourite. Would definitely recommend this over the others if only buying one.
It sounds like a corny joke. What do you get when you mix guacamole with hummus? Guacahummus of course. I love hummus and I love guacamole so why haven't I thought of combining the 2 together. Fressure Foods are obviously more creative than I am. My husband loves hummus but hates avocado so I was hoping that he would like this. Unfortunately he was unwilling to try it and there was no hiding it had avocado in it because to the distinctive green colour. Although I shouldn't complain as it left more for me,
The ingredient list for the guacahummus was much longer than for the other Fressure Foods products but that was to be expected being that it is essentially 2 products mixed together. They were still all natural ingredients and no numbers that were code for something sinister. With several friends and family members that suffer from food allergies it is great to know that this is both vegan and safe for them to eat.
I was very surprised to see there was no expiry date. There was nothing stamped on the cardboard outer and the pouches had some numbers but they weren't a date (perhaps a batch number of product code). This would have been useful to insure I was buying fresh and to help supermarket staff with stock rotation. The sample I was given was definitely top quality.
The taste was what I expected with the combination of the two flavours. Although it contains jalapeno powder it isn't as spicy as their spicy guacamole. The nutty flavour of the hummus comes through too. I have used it both for dipping and as a spread and find it enjoyable. Miss 3.5 who loves guacamole really enjoyed it too and it was a great way to encourage her to eat more raw vegetables.
