Reading the sky magazines synopsis it did not give anything away except two girls went into the woods the day there mother was murdered. I did not know what to expect and so was pleasantly surprised.
After the father has a breakdown and goes on a bit of a murder spree, killing his wife and business associates he kidnaps his daughters and flees. After crashing the car he takes the girls into the forest and comes upon a house, which on all accounts looks empty, but soon finds out that someone already is residing there. After a long search the uncle of the girls and his partner find them living alone in the house in the woods and decide with the aid of the psychologist to raise them, unaware that somebody already has taken that responsibility upon themselves.
Not many horror movies made me cry but this one certainly did. Such a major twist at the end you really did not expect it. I think it hit home as I also have two daughters so its quite easy to think what if they were my kids in that situation. By husband had planned to read while watching it but instead turned the lights off and also sat down to view. He was also surprised at how good it was. Not like most movies where you can predict what is about to happen.
A little slow in some areas but would not mind watching again especially the end.
I love horror movies there's nothing quite like snuggling up with a popcorn and a good movie full of frights. I had heard a lot about Mama and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all.
Mama is about two little girls who are lost in the forest after their father killed their mother and then ran away with them. Their uncle never gave up hope of finding them though and after 5 years the girls are found in a house deep within the forest with their father no-where to be found. Their uncle takes them home and faces the challenges of raising the girls who have been alone for so long. It is soon discovered though the girls haven't been alone and the spirit watching over them wants them back.
The movie starts a little slow as the story is built up but it soon picks up pace and the scary moments become thick and fast. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the second half of the movie and even got so in to it I found myself yelling at the tv at one point. My husband thought it was very funny every time something happened and I jumped out of my skin.
I would recommend the movie to anyone who likes a bit of a scare and enjoys movies of the supernatural spirit world kind. Mama is well worth a watch but prepare for a fright or two along the way. The only thing I found a little disappointing was the ending. I would of liked to seen its wrapped up a little differently.
I don't watch a lot of horror movies but I do enjoy them from time to time. I had seen the shorts of this at the begining of another movie and decided I wanted to watch it. I had never heard of the director before so it was all going to be new. I think the director/writer has done a good job and it is an all round pretty good movie and as a horror movie it definitely has the scare factor.
At first it started off really slow and I was begining to think I had picked the wrong movie or something as I was beginning to get bored with all the build up but once the frights and excitement started it was pretty full on. Kept me sitting on the edge of my seat for sure. I did find the storyline rather strange and wondered why Mama was such a tormented spirit.
I am not much of a believer in the supernatural and spirits and all that lark but this movie still put the spooks on me and I am glad I didn't watch it when I was home alone.
