Product reviews...
This brand of popcorn is my go to when purchasing popcorn. It is easy to pop in the microwave, kernels pop well, and is well seasoned throughout the packet.
I have found a few problems with this popcorn. One of which is the time needed to pop the kernels in the microwave. The instructions say 2-3 minutes, but this varies drastically, especially when taking into consideration the difference in wattage on each microwave. Because of this I have found sometimes the kernels are uncooked so many kernels are left unpopped, and other times the kernels are over-popped and burnt.
On a positive note, I love the buttery taste of this popcorn. I do find you need to be sure to shake the packet well once popped to ensure the buttery is spread evenly though. If you try and do this after opening the packet it is very difficult to ensure all kernels have some butter on them. For me personally, I prefer the extra buttery popcorn from Act II, although this is merely my taste buds and love of butter. If you like your popcorn lightly buttered then this is the one for you, if like me, you want your popcorn lovely and buttery like the movie theatre, then I suggest getting the extra buttery version.
We love popcorn in my household, and nothing beats the taste of hot, freshly popped pop corn with lots of yummy melted butter for flavour. When it comes to buying microwave popcorn ACT ll seems to be the way to go, especially as they seem to have a lot more choices in regards to flavour than other brands out there. Whenever we go out to the movies (which doesn't happen very often) we always get a box of popcorn from the cinemas, although you do get a lot in your box, it does work out to be a VERY expensive way to buy popcorn. When we watch movies at home we always have to have popcorn as one of our snacks, as well as some M & M's and ice cream.
ACT ll always being our choice is very easy to prepare, just pop the packet into the microwave and leave it for a few minutes or until you hear the popping sound starting to slow down. The best part about using this microwave popcorn is that it's very difficult to burn and also the clean up is super easy, just pop the bag it comes in into the rubbish and it's done, no mess, no fuss. The light butter flavour is just right and not to over powering or greasy.
The microwave pouch clearly gives the instructions so it is easy for anyone to make at home, even the kids. It comes in single packs or more convenient boxes of 3 packs, which we tend to buy due to the amount of popcorn we consume in our house. Not only is this great to have for watching movies, but it makes a great fast and relatively healthy treat, it's great more kids birthday parties and also for creating caramel pop corn balls, for a special pop corn treat mix in some M & M's and mini marshmallows.
My family are huge lovers of popcorn. We can not have family games night or movie night without popcorn. And of course popcorn is a must have for birthday parties (or other parties), and also a must have for our Christmas Eve family box :) Act ll popcorn is our favourite brand of microwaveable popcorn. Like any microwaveable popcorn it is convenient and easy. Our disaster and burn rate with microwaveable popcorn is not as high as our disaster, mess, and burn rate when making popcorn the good old fashion way hehe.
You can buy Act ll popcorn in single pouches or in boxes of individual pouches. And there is also more than one flavour. I prefer the light butter. My kids and husband prefer the extra butter. The instructions are printed on thd packet and it is as simple as popping in microwave and microwaving for a few mins. Do not step away from the mucrowave though. Even though the time given on the instructions is fairly accurate, the time for cooking does vary due to different microwaves. So the best guide is when the popping slows...it is ready. Do not wait till the popping stops altogether as this can often lead to burning.
Once the time is up, let sit for a minute or two, and then when opening, open away from you because the steam and heat released when you open the bag is very hot. Open, pour into a bowl, and eat. It really is that easy. Light, crunchy, full of flavour popcorn that never dissapoints. The only complaint my kids often have is that a lot of the butter flavouring remains stuck to the sides of the bag lol
Act II Popcorn gets the big "thumbs up" from me for many reasons. It's conveniently available from my local supermarkets and the price is comparable to many sugar, salt and fat-laden snacks such as crisps, cookies and crackers. And the taste is real without the nasties.
I can have it freshly made in a matter of minutes and be back on my comfy chair ready to watch the block-buster movie. Just like being at the movies. Or something healthy and tasty to snack on when reading. I'm not over-burdened with a strong buttery flavor and the portion size is right for when I'm grazing.
My favorite time to put it out is when we have friends over for drinks and the bowl disappears while the popcorn is still warm. Lucky I always have plenty in supply and can pop a packet into the microwave for the next round. All my friends have started buying Act II Popcorn since trying it at my place. And we can enjoy as much as we want guilt free.
I don't mind spoiling my grandchildren when they come to visit or stay but I don't want them filling up on sweets or fatty chips so out comes the Act II Popcorn. Their eyes light up when they hear the corn popping and they are delighted every time they see the little packet with the hard little kernels come out full of tasty popped corn.
This popcorn is my first choice as it is a simple and hassle free snack for anytime of the day. My nieces love this popcorn as a supper snack if they watch a movie before bedtime and since it only takes a couple of minutes in the microwave it is a snack that my nieces can make themselves....so it is very hassle free for me!
It did take us awhile to figure out how long to put it on for but I guess each microwave is different, the perfect amount of time for the bag to pop all the popcorn in my microwave is 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Any longer and the popcorn burns and any less there are heaps of unpopped corn kernels left in the packet.
My nieces would prefer the extra butter option but since I do the shopping they are stuck with the light butter option basically because of the healthier option is better...and for the times that I feel like popcorn I don't like the taste of all that butter, it is greasy and just coats my mouth with the butter taste and after a few mouthfuls it just too much...but the light butter is perfect...it offers enough flavour without the sickly taste. With several options of different flavours I am sure there is a flavour for everyone out there if light butter isn't your thing.
I like how the paper bags can be recycled too after the popcorn has been eaten, so this popcorn is a healthier option and good for the environment too, so a win win situation! I much prefer to buy this popcorn over popcorn that is already popped as this takes up way less room on the cupboard when stored when it is not using used, since the packets of corn kernels are tightly packed in folded packets ready for popping.
I can't fault this popcorn at all and I always have it in the cupboard as it is a regular request from my nieces and there is such disappointed on their faces if the last packet is used and not replaced straight away!
Popcorn is a nice treat in our family and I don't mind making it for the kids as it is so much better for them then having potato chips. I usually make my own in the popcorn maker but recently my popcorn maker blew up from too much use so we bought some of these too try.
I bought the light butter one as I didn't want it to have too much butter on it for the kids and it didn't so that was good. It had a nice buttery taste to it without it being too greasy. My 11 year old really liked it and it was good as she can make it herself in the microwave.
The one thing that I found difficult was knowing how long to cook it in the microwave it says on the packet 2-3 minutes but I found if I didn't leave it on long enough I would be left with lots of unpopped kernels and if I left it on too long it burnt and I couldn't quite find a middle point.
All in all it is a very convenient way of making popcorn and it doesn't have any mess to clean up unlike my popcorn maker that used to wildly throw popcorn out in all directions so definitely a good choice although I need to master the correct cooking time.
I always love making popcorn but sadly even though I do a great job cooking it, my flavour is always called air as I can never get is seasoned well, so even though its healthy its lacking that flavour.
Getting some of the Act 11 and keeping it in the cupboard for when I want a good flavour popcorn, the best part is my kids can eat it with no gluten in it. Its easy to get it right pop in the microwave for 2 - 3 mins but listen for the popping because you go over just a little and it will start to burn and burnt popcorn doesn't taste very good. My fav would be the butter of course, its a great snack and we serve it up on Fridays family dinners we always have some of this out on the table for the adults and children its a fast going treat. Everyone likes popcorn, its so easy my kids can do it
