A great cold has seized the Beyond. The warmth of summer, the smell of sweet grass and the great caribou migrations are distant memories. Now the wolves know only ice, dark, snow and endless cold. The order that kept the wolf clans strong for thousands of years has broken down completely.
The wolves have only one chance for survival. They must find their way to a new land, a land of warmth and summer. But the journey will take them over a frozen sea and through thousands of miles of perilous territory. Will the wolves trust young Faolan to lead them?

Once again I was lucky enough to be selected to review books via KIWIreviews, and again lucky enough to receive another in the 'Wolves of the Beyond' series by Kathryn Lasky. Lasky is a truly magnificent author. The covers of these books always capture my attention, not just because I love wolves and their majestic beauty, but because even though the covers are so simple, they offer so much more: intensity, love, loss, heart ache...all in a simple picture of a wolf.
I believe the wolves of the beyond series are wonderful books for many ages, from young accomplished readers, and teens, right through to older readers like myself; the suspense, drama, love, and perfect ending are simply stunning. As with the other books I have read from the series (not all of them mind you) Star wolf is well written, easy to read, not boring and really does capture you from start to finish. Another 'can't put down' book.
The journey of the pack from the Beyond meets an exiting close. The numerous twists in this books keeps you reading. Some parts may be graphic, but it is such an immersive read. This is apparently the last book in the series, which is really sad, as there is a potential for so much more, and hopefully Kathryn Lasky finds somewhere in the depths of the wolves of the beyond a reason to add another to the series...it is one of those series of books that just should never end Ever! lol However in saying that I'm sad to see the series end. I wish there was another continuation, but like every great and wonderful thing..it eventually has to end. Goodbye great Faolan, Edme and the rest of the pack..What an amazing series and amazing ending. Very impressed:)
As I said I have not had the opportunity to read all books in the series, but will most definitely look at getting the rest, not only to complete the series but to see how it all began and what really happened through-out. I can't wait to see what Kathryn Lasky produces in the future, she really is one very talented author.
**SPOILER ALERT** - One of my favorite parts of the story was when Faolan (FENGO) proposes to Edme (STORMFAST). You thought it was going to happen, but at the same time it was unclear...they were clearly wolves destined to be together, both now and in past lives, but would it truly happen? So when it does you almost want to punch the air with excitement
