This was one of the first Wiggles DVDs we ever bought. I got it because I was looking for a DVD with The Wiggles version of Dr Knickerbocker. This is my daughter's favourite song by the Wiggles. We saw it on TV while in Australia, so I wanted to make sure we had it at home when she requested it. This DVD is great. It was released in 2008, so there is a clear increase in production costs and the quality of the guests, costumes, and effects. In the earlier DVDs, you can see the camera work wasn't top rate and their costumes were lower quality. Here the Wiggles are confident in their roles and how to talk to the camera too.
The DVD has a lot of great songs. Songs even I would happily listen to and sing along with. This is important because if you are going to have something like this on, its nice for everyone to be enjoying it. So many times you find yourself yawning through something because the kids want to watch it. Our favourites are the title track, which gets you clicking your fingers along. Dr Knickerbocker, which makes you want to wiggle your hips and The Shimmie Shake which always gets stuck in my head. "I can shake, I can do the shimmie shake...." Anyway, you get the picture. Its more fun for the kids if you are dancing around with them, that's for sure.
The DVD also has a couple of special features. We liked the bonus episodes of Henry the Octopus. But my favourite bit as a parent was the safety messages. They have all these safety tips for around the home, including water safety. They are aimed at adults, but I watched them all with my daughter so we could talk about each thing and why they might be dangerous. It was a good way to teach her why we say "don't do that" or "be careful". If you like the Wiggles and you are Team Sam - this is the DVD for you.
I have lost count of the number of The Wiggles' DVDs that we own. You Make Me Feel Like Dancing has to be my favourite. It is made for older parents like me that were bought up on rock and roll. I am old enough to remember when Leo Sayer first introduced his famous song to the world. The version he does with The Wiggles is fantastic and they have even added some Greek to it too.
There are other songs on this that we had watched several times on YouTube before we owned this DVD. The best of these is The Shimmie Shake where they have wigs on and made to look like The Beatles. It is a song they we all sing along to and is often stuck in my head.
Some of the other songs are classics like Dr Knickerboker (my three year old's favourite), The Banana Boat Song, and A Sailor Went to Sea, One Finger One Thumb (my four year old's favourite). There are also some original songs from The Wiggles.
This is The Wiggles song the grandparents would love to watch as it has so many songs they know and can sing along to.
