Over the last week my daughter, ages 2 has become utterly obsessed with this book, I've got a feeling that they must have been reading it a lot at daycare lately as it had been away in the cupboard for some time up until now, along with this and the Wonky Donkey not many other books are getting a look in at the moment with these 2 required to be read at least 5 times a day, i'm almost certain I could read these with out needing to look at the books!

With 10 years of working in Early Childhood this has always been a very popular story amongst the children who I have cared for. We're Going on a Bear Hunt is a wonderful interactive read-out-loud book about a family who decide to embark on a venture to find a bear. In the process they encounter and must go through many different surroundings like long wavy grass, a deep cold river, thick oozy mud and many more things. This book is great to make interactive either by making up actions as you read it such as waving your hands from side to side for the long wavy grass, or squishing your fingers for thick oozy mud, or with the older children as an extension for the well loved book setting up a obstacle course to resemble the parts of the story. If you look online there is also a very cool audio version of this story which children really enjoy listening to.

The language used in this book is very skilfully done with Michael Rosen (the author) cleverly repeating some phrases and the use of onomatopoeia as the family experience each surrounding (â˜splash sploshâ ™, â˜squelch squerchâ ™), this makes it very easy for children to join in and get really involved in the telling of the story. My 2 year old already seems to have memorized parts of the story which I am pretty impressed by.

The illustrations are quite well down with the pages alternating between being black and white and colour, which is a bit different to most children's books done solely in colour. We're going on Bear Hunt is a book fulled with fun adventures from start to finish that children will love being involved book, another classic that seems to never get old.

We're going on a bear hunt is a classic, one which every child should have in their book collection. It's a book that I remember from my own childhood and one that I just had to get for my son.

The sing song rhyme perfectly captures the excitement of the story and the repetition makes it easy for young children to read along. At first I would just read it to my son but as he got older he began acting it out and turning it into a game. I love books that engage his imagination and become something more than just a book.

The illustrations are sweet and I love the handrawn look to them. I also like how they alternate between colour and black and white - it provides great contrast between the rhyming pages and the action pages.

We're Going On A Bear Hunt is just one big adventure from beginning to end, one which we never get tired of going on and we always have lots of fun whether simply reading along or playing along as well.

I first got introduced to this book when I starting teaching in Early Childhood and instantly fell in love. The children at the centre I was teaching at loved the big book version of this the centre had and I really only had to hold the book for them to look at the pictures as they knew all the words off by heart.

I have bought a copy for my son as it is such a classic story that children just seem to really enjoy. He really likes it when I read it to him and I get really fast when we are running back through the grass all the way back home. I love the repetition of the story and it almost becomes like a song when you are reading it as you get that rhythm in your voice.

This would make a great teaching resource for any early childhood teacher or new entrant teacher as children just love it and they can really interact with the book by joining in and acting it out. It would also make a great first birthday or baby shower gift as it really is a classic that children will treasure having read to them again and again.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt is one of the tattiest books on our bookshelf. I first bought a copy when I was a New Entrant teacher and the children knew it so well I didn't have to read a word, I would just hold the book and turn the pages. It is a classic song that has been adapted into a book. I have very fond memories of doing the knee-slapping song as a young Brownie.

Now I am a mum of two preschoolers and home-based child-carer the book is getting more use than ever. It appeals to my toddlers as much as it did to my class of five year olds. I think it is the rhythm as well as the actions (body percussion) that captures them. There is also something a bit naughty and dangerous about going for a bear hunt .

The simple drawings help to tell the story but for me the book is really to help remember the order of the events. Prior to getting a copy to this book I had attempted doing the song with my class several times and it was always a disaster as I forgot where I was up to. Now I get a kid to hold the book, put it on an easel or even the floor and we can all join in.

This is one of the few books I own that I will replace when my copy has been loved to death. It is also a great gift as every parent knows the song.

This is one book I actually remember as a child, it was such a fun book that it was stuck in my head all these years.

Im a childcare teacher and have been for 10 years and we will act this book out almost on a daily basis, we would read the story first then off we went singing along around the playground making different parts of the outside area parts of the book. Grass for the grass, splashing though river normally a bridge and sliding down the slide and though the mud which we used the sandpit looking for this bear, another teacher in a cave as a bear. Was lots of fun and entertaining.

When living in Australia I introduced this book to my own children and walking to preschool we would end up singing this book going though real long grass, it was just lots of fun, the kids were sing it at preschool and i had to find the book for the preschool.

This is one classic book that i think every child needs, and every adult needs to bring out that inner child cause face its, its great fun no matter what age you are.

We're going on a Bear Hunt is a classic children's book which is sure to please readers young and old. My daughter loves this book so much. She loves making the noises all the way through. Reading the book prompts all sorts of free play afterwards. From re-creating scenes with her toys, to building obstacle courses inside and out. And she knows all the words. This means that even when we don't have the book, if we happen to be walking through an area of bush or somewhere unfamiliar we just start using the parts of the book we remember.

I recently went to a friend's place for a play-date. The three year old there picked up her copy and started to read it to my baby. It was adorable to watch, as he also knew all the words off by heart. In some sections I wasn't quite sure what he was saying as he was reading so fast, but it was clear he loved the book. The look of joy on his face as he flipped the page and read aloud was just gorgeous.

This book would make an excellent baby shower gift, as a book that can grow as a family favourite for years to come. The language is nicely repetitive which is a great learning tool for pre-schoolers and for first readers. The pictures inside are beautiful pencil and water colour style. The characters faces are so expressive as they go on their adventure. Sure to provide years of giggles and fun.

I totally love this book and so do all the children I read it to! This has got to be one of my childhood favourites and i love that i can still share it with children today who seem to love it just as much as i did all those years ago.

The repetitive words, "we're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, what a beautiful day, we're not scared" can be heard all over the playground as children use this book to form imaginary play outside and inside throughout their day. Whenever its time to sit on the mat one of the first things we get asked is "can we read the bear hunt book". In fact i could just hold up the book and not read the words as all the children know the words off by heart.

The illustrations in this book are also great and ive noticed that the children are always pointing out something different they've noticed. The bear is always following them close behind once its chasing them home and the children love this, often shrieking and pointing "watch out the bear's coming". We also use the CD version of this book on our TV which the illustrations/pictures are still just as great, the children love laxing out to this. I have noticed some children are scared of the bear when its on the TV (it must seem more real) but nothing that cant be talked about / once the child understands its just on the TV they are ok about it again.

Another great book that I just love....the repetitive words in the book encourages children to read along and join in. Everyone loves going on adventures and exploring new places. This book encourages interactions between the reader and the listeners, I am an Early Childhood Teacher and whenever this book is read the children love acting out the actions within the book - e.g. swishing through the grass, splashing through the water, stumbling and falling to the ground as they walk through the forest and best of all tip toeing through the cave!!

The drawings throughout the book are interesting as one full page is in black and white and the next page with the action on it is in full colour, I do like the effect of the hand drawn look that the illustrator has created; I think it adds to the quirkiness of the book. You can't help but read the book in song, you can't just read the book normally it invites the reader to break into song no matter how hard you try to just read the book. I am by no means a singer but the children don't care and join in with the singing and actions too.

A great book to add to the collection and a great way to spend time with your children having fun and going on a great adventure!! Go out and get yourself a copy of this book.
