Escape is a really interesting book covering all sorts of scenarios for survival. It's like a kid's version of the Worst-Case Scenario Survival books. This book covers scenarios under several broad topics, like accidents, natural disasters, situations where you may be trapped. Some of the scenarios are based on fantasy as well.
I liked the illustrations. They look like self-help/educational pictures. Each scenario is set out with an overview of the situation, and the steps or tips for each. I did find a few of the pages difficult to follow. Sometimes the steps were laid out vertically on the page and sometimes horizontally across half of two pages. That made it difficult to follow at times.
A few of the scenarios made me question the advice. Getting stuck in quick sand, it suggests using water to water down the sand. This might work, but I also wondered if in that situation you might also need all the water you have.
I enjoyed the advice about avoiding crazed robots, vampires and aliens. I did wonder if some kids might find those scenarios a bit scary. One thing I appreciated was the advice on keeping yourself safe from attackers (self defence), bullying and especially cyber bullying. Really good to see advice on these subjects.
Overall, I really liked this book. Its easily going to be something you go back to and refer to over and over again. Its fun to read, and think about what you would do to escape prison, or the tentacles of an octopus.
