An English National Ballet Production
After hugely successful tours of Australia, Royal New Zealand Ballet is delighted to be performing this enchanting production, originally created by English National Ballet, throughout the country between March and May.
Angelina loves to dance and dreams of becoming a famous ballerina. Miss Lilly is her ballet teacher and Alice Nimbletoes, her best friend - characters that cannot fail to charm with their love of colour and pretty costumes.
Angelina Mousling is a fictional mouse and the star of some twenty enormously popular children's books, which became an animated TV series in 2002, then a musical and now a ballet.
In this production Angelina prepares for her most important performance ever ... in front of the Camembert Academy judges.
Definitely one for all those budding ballerinas and we guarantee you'll love it too!
The Meridian Season of Angelina Ballerina's Big Audition is the perfect production to introduce children to the fun and magic of live performance. The show is 75 minutes long with one interval, and specially produced programmes, including colouring, puzzles and fun ballet facts will be available to purchase.
The show is suitable for children aged two and up, so don't be afraid to bring younger siblings along to share in the fun. The cast love performing for families and hearing the audience's feedback especially when children laugh at the jokes and clap to the music.

My son who is almost four was so excited to see this advertised on T.V. The New Zealand Royal Ballet advertised non stop it seemed on television about this show - to hook in the children! At $25.00 for the cheapest ticket, it wasn't too expensive to see New Zealand's top performers.
I brought two tickets on-line and my one year old was free to come, the next day i rang and emailed to see if i could add another ticket on, as a friends daughter wanted to come. I had no luck as the seats next to ours had sold and Ticket Direct would not move us. Fair enough as they said it was selling out fast.
We got there and our seats were rather average, we couldn't see half the stage. When the show started all the same section seats behind us were empty and a lovely usher said we were welcome to move back and into the centre so we could see. This was fantastic, but i was also highly disappointed at ticket direct, as they had stated the show was selling out and could not move us about. A bit poor on their behalf.
Back to the show itself! There were two parts at around 23 minutes each, so nice and short for the children. I had expected a bit of commentary over the speakers of Angelina maybe to make it more of a story, but it purely was ballet. I found my son had trouble following what was going on in the story, but both My 3 and Mr 1 sat still for both parts, they danced along and had a great time!
We purchased the $15.00 program/children's book, this in my opinion was over priced, but i always expect to get roped into buying something *overpriced* when going to things like this. They only had girls t.shirts for sale, so nothing for my boys, and i did hear them say they only had big kids (size 12) left, so as Dunedin was at the end of the tour, a lot of merchandise had already sold out.
For the avid Angelina fan this is worth seeing! A fun morning out with the kids!!
