Lime and Chilli Plash product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsAn Asian style accompaniment. With ingredients of chilli and fish sauce, this 'light splash' can be mixed with mint, coriander, parsley or basil and dolloped over a green salad or used as a dressing for prawns and fish.

Try splashing into a vegetable stir fry, a salad or over noodles to achieve an Asian flavour.

I'm normally pretty picky about chilli products that I try so I was really pleased with this one. The chilli bite wasn't too much and the lime taste complimented it nicely I thought. It definitely is a versatile dressing as well. I tried it drizzled over steamed fish which gave the fish a really nice kick and was something just a little bit different. I also had it over a green salad which I found particularly nice as it "spiced" it up a little, making it more interesting. Going into summer when salads are such a staple, this will be perfect for giving them that something a little bit different.

I also like that being low in calories, it made it healthy eating and personal trainer friendly! I'm always on the look out for products that pass that test that I can keep on hand to make meals even better so this is a great option as far as I'm concerned.

My daughter did find it too spicy for her so this probably won't be one for the general family meals but it will be a pantry staple in my cupboard this summer.

I *love* this stuff... it is amazing! I have managed to successfully use it in five completely different Summer salads - two totally different green salads, two different styles of pasta salad and a potato salad. I have also used to it marinade some steaks, and I fully expect to find many more uses, potentially including some hot and spicy cocktail mixes if I can find some willing volunteers. Wink Icon

So simple to use, this was a no-brainer to add into any salad dressing I came up with... and as anyone who has joined one of my BBQ's can tell you, no two salads I make are ever the same. I don't 'do' recipes when it comes to salads - I rummage through the fridge and cupboards and just 'feel' what's going to work. It usually pans out pretty good, although I will admit to a few spectacular failures. LOL Icon

This went best with the pasta salads I think - it added a really nice lime freshness, with a hint of a spicy aftertaste that even Mr 11 and Mr3 were willing to enjoy - after a bit of prompting. A good shake or three into the salad bowl early on allows the flavour to mix with the pasta and onions while you prepare the rest of the salad - just be sure to mix it well before letting it sit in the fridge while you prepare the other ingredients. One salad had tuna chunks, sliced capsicum and grated carrots, the other had diced cucumber and tomato and a creamier dressing. Both went down a treat.

Overall, this is another of those 'magic' ingredients that you really need to have on hand this time of year. A dash of this on almost anything will make it special - and although I haven't tried it yet, I am almost certain some freshly cooked white fish would suffer no ill effects from an hour or two soaking up a few splashes of this before cooking.
