Product reviews...
Top Gear is my personal favourite car show ever. It features a very wide range of cars from minis, hummers to supercars like Ferarri, Maserati and Porsche.
I thoroughly recommend this program for any serious car fan or even for those who just like to see expensive cars getting thrashed by the shows expert drivers till they explode.
This show has it all as far as car shows go. The show analyses all aspects of motoring including safety features and user friendliness, as well as the expected drooling over the huge engines. It even has a dash of comedy thrown in every now and again.
Great stuff!! Highly recommended.
OK, this is a Motoring News Show, so what's with the scores? This will require some translation, so please, bear with me a moment more...
Storyline: Well, it doesn't have one really, despite being scripted. But it is more than a giant infommercial with attitude... it really is more of the off-spring of a Game Show crossed with with an Infommercial-on-Speed. This is classic British broadcasting at it's modern best.
The show is presented by 2 core hosts. The first is Jeremy Clarkson, who is described in his online profile as "Jeremy's irreverent style turned the motoring industry on its head when he first appeared on Top Gear..." and I would SO have to agree.
His Partner-in-Crime is Richard Hammond, the Lighter Half of the team. Richard brings an appeal for the more 'Average Joe' viewer, as his enthusiasm is a little more restrained, and P.C.
Recently the team was joined by James May. James has been involved in motoring for many years, and has been behind-the-scenes of Top Gear for quite some time.
These guys make an otherwise-bland topic for the average non-petrolhead into something so entertaining even I watch it with great pleasure and interest... and to me a car is simply something that moves me around and drains my wallet regularly. (Hence the good score for 'Actors').
I couldn't tell the difference between a Saab and a Toyota without looking at the radiator badges, but I find this show has a hefty dose of the X-factor that makes shows a hit. The best bit... the stunts, road-tests and destructions are ALL REAL, so there are NO 'Special Effects' - but I was hardly able to score such a good thing by choosing '1' now could I?
"But you forgot 'Soundtrack'!" Bzzzz... wrong answer. Save the best til last. This show has a great 'driving-feeling' theme-tune, and there is often a good, appropriate tune dubbed-over any road-test bits that don't have a voice-track, playing on the stereo's of the cars The STIG is running around the track, or playing quietly in the back of the studio scenes. Good stuff indeed.
Overall, even if you don't like cars overly, you'll find this show very entertaining and very much worth a look. If you like 'Monster Garage' you might find it a bit posh, but totally funny!
