AA Insurance was launched on the 15th of August 1994, as a joint venture between GIO Australia and the New Zealand Automobile Association, to provide AA Members with a range of insurance products tailored to specifically meet their needs.
In 2002 a new joint venture partner, Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance (New Zealand) Limited, acquired a 68% shareholding in AA Insurance Limited. In 2003 Royal & Sun Alliance altered its organisational structure and listed on the New Zealand stock exchange as Promina. Promina is New Zealand's largest composite insurance Group, and is now the joint venture partner with the New Zealand Automobile Association. The partnership brings considerable strength to the company introducing a range of products not previously offered to AA Members. AA Members receive benefits and discounts on policies and premiums as well as earning AA Rewards Points on HouseCover, ContentsCover, RoadCover Plus, HullCover and PleasurecraftCover policies.
We welcome enquiries from non-AA Members too.

Am currently looking to insure house, car and contents, have to say AA Insurance have been superb so far in terms of responding quickly, delivering highly competitive pricing and an assurance that they live up to their high ranking for all insurances. Would love to hear from anyone who has had a claim in New Zealand with AA. I am comparing cover and pricing with ASB IAG options ... State have never even responded to online enquiry nor have Tower?? Everyone should be well prepared, insurance premiums have gone through the roof so it is critical that you fully understand the new system insuring for replacement and get several options before committing. I believe it is different if you have bank mortgagee they will probably insist on arranging the insurance cover .. but still worth checking. AA also sweetened the deal with renewal of AA membership. Maybe I just got lucky to strike a skilled and willing consultant in my opinion AJ made it all as good as it gets. ASB staff were outstanding they are just not able to massage set policy packages to meet customer needs unfortunately. Will update as time progresses. Hope never to have claim but that is the ultimate TEST of the insurer.
wow AA insurance are great. we have been with them for 1 year and last week our car got broken into. We had put stuff in the car the night before when there was a break in the weather due to horrible storms. When we went to the vehicle the next morning. Hello everything we had put in the car was gone along with stuff that was already in car. Rang insurance after police and put i a claim on contents. There was no visible damage to vehicle from break in (whoever did it knew what they were doing). I was contacted promptly on the next working day to verify information and within 3 working days claim had been processed and on day 7 I was contacted and told to go collect replacement items.
I have dealt with other insurance companies in the past and AA definitely exceed all expectations and are very prompt in contact and replacement. It may cost a bit more than some other insurance companies but it is worth it in the long run and i would never be without insurance and AA is my choice.
I have had dealings with many insurance firms over the years, and have had some shocking experiences. Most notable was one insurance company that decided, BEFORE any real investigation was even started, to try and cancel my policy due to an unexplained incident 8 month earlier. It turned out they had jumped to an incorrect conclusion, but by then I had already closed my account with them, withdrawn all my other policies, and moved on. Silly buggers.
So when I signed up with AA Insurance, I was stunned and impressed before I was even fully covered. The staff were friendly, very helpful, keen to go the extra mile, and even offered to give me the same no-claims bonus I had enjoyed due to nearly 8 years with my previous insurer... now that's gotta be good.
A while later, I had to make a claim when my car was broken into and some expensive electronics were stolen. This is the bit we all dread, since we can easily understand that the insurance firm makes no money by replacing stuff willy-nilly. But to my pleasant surprise, the team at AAI were prompt, efficient and all to willing to give me a break. I had the equipment replaced in under a week, and even that delay was caused only by the suppliers being short on stock. If the items had been in stock, I would have had everything replaced in under 72 hours!
Recently, I was taking my son to the circus and we returned to the car to grab my digital camera, only to find that once again some little toerag had broken into my buggy and had swiped my bag, containing the camera and most of it's accessories, plus my USB PenDrive unit full of pictures of my son I was going to give to his mother. Irreplaceable. Those moments exist now, only in my memories, and you can't insure that.
So, once again into the fray. Due to work pressures, and sheer braindead forgetfulness on my part, this claim took over 2 weeks to lodge, but once AAI had the paperwork in their skilled hands, things once again flowed smoothly. Within 72 hours I had all the gear replaced, and in some cases upgraded at no charge, and am once again overjoyed with the service and the helpfulness of the friendly staff.
In particular, I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to the wonderful lady who looked after my claim, and all the staff and suppliers associated with this. You are a great bunch of people who should be proud of your service skills. You made the whole process so smooth and stress-free that it took a lot of the sting out of the incident. Gold Star for your HR Files, I think! Feel free to use this review to brag at your bosses for that well deserved pay-rise. :)
