My 5 year old recently got this book, and absolutely loves it. It shows the journey of an independent young lady, with a problem - a blister on the tip of her tongue. She goes to various members of her family, to find remedies for her problem.
This story had great rhythm and great illustrations. Hester, the main character, is dressed a bit 'wild' which is great, because my kids are always wearing crazy combos like that. The story felt more realistic than some children's books and it wasn't condescending (like a lot of children's books) so it fits with my re-readability criteria. Although, I might change my mind after the hundredth time, because we all know that as parents, once is never going to be enough.
I'm glad that I enjoyed this story as much as my daughter did. It captured her interest all the way through, and at the end she had a bit of a giggle when she realised the twist. In terms of price, it is a little more than I would like to spend on a kids book, but I did it anyway, and I have no regrets. This is one that will stay in our kids library for a while.
I enjoyed this book because the illustrations were so good that I think a younger child would be able to understand the story even if their reading is not so great.
I think the price is a little steep for younger children.
I liked the way the characters gave ideas about how to get rid of your blisters because I am always getting blisters and I never know how to get rid of them. Next time I get a blister I can try one of the ideas.
This book is about Hester Lister who ends up with a blister. The story follows Hester on her journey to find out how she can get rid of her blister. She walks her way around town asking different people for advice, and by which she follows all of their advice, but who's advice was the one that worked? And what happened when she got home?
I found this story to be a real tongue twister, and a few times had to start a page again because my tongue was so tied. My 3yr old daughter absolutely adored this book. That may be however as she has recently just had blisters herself from her gumboots.
The illustrations are very quirky and when the characters speak it is shown in speech bubbles which helped my daughter associate which character is doing the talking.

They are ratty and tatty, a little bit mouldy and a little bit smelly! There are holes in the soles and... look, is that Grandpa's toe? It is time for a new pair of slippers, but Grandpa can't let his old ones go.
