Medusa product reviews

In the Micronesian Islands, a top-secret, US Government-sponsored undersea lab conducting vital biomedical research on a rare jellyfish known as the Blue Medusa suddenly disappears. At the same time, off Bermuda, a bathysphere is attacked by and underwater vehicle. Stranded half a mile below the surface, its passengers - including Zavala - are left to die. Only Kurt Austin's heroic measures can now save them from a watery grave.

Austin, suspecting a connection between the two mysterious events, puts the NUMA team on the case. He has no idea what he has just got them all into - a hideous series of medical experiments... an extraordinarily ambitious Chinese criminal organisation... a secret new virus that threatens to set off a worldwide pandemic... Austin and Zavala have been in tight spots before, but this time it's not just their own skins they're trying to save - it's the lives of millions.

I have always enjoyed a good bit of fiction, from an early age I was drawn to the sheer wonders possible when a talented writer allowed us to visit the strange lands in their heads. Cussler is one such author for me.

After a chance encounter with Cussler's work through the medium of a movie made out of one of his books, Sahara, I found myself well and truely hooked... and Medusa has continued that fine tradition. With plenty of action and plot-twists... enough predictability that you don't get lost - yet not enough that you find yourself guessing the method of ending 2 chapters in advance... and lots of potential for a movie to be made out of it should someone in Hollywood wise up... there really is something for any serious 'spy thriller' fan - even though there are no debonair, tux-wearing heroes in this book!

There are damsels in distress, danger at the bottom of the sea, international conspiracies that cross borders and cultures, evil plots and high technology, and all the assorted other goodies that ensure that no matter who you are, as long as you aren't expecting a book full of blushing romance and heartfelt expressions of undying devotion, you'll at *worst* find this a pleasant way to pass a rotten-weather weekend, and at best be converted to the Cult of Cussler. LOL Icon

Overall, I was again impressed, and very pleased to see many back-titles hitting the shelves again as re-releases. Goes to show, quality sells... and I'm buying! If you enjoy stories with action and adventure, but without overcooked plots, then you should be into Cussler, and you can start right here.

Product reviews for listing 7363: A Kiwi Night Before Christmas  -  Author: Yvonne Morrison and Deborah Hinde (Illus)

Product image for A Kiwi Night Before Christmas Take one Santa dressed in singlet and shorts, and put him on a miniature tractor pulled by eight flying sheep, and you have a Kiwi version of the well-loved Clement C. Moore poem, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.

This is the ultimate read-aloud for Christmas in New Zealand. The rhyming text flows off the page and Deborah Hinde captures the colour of a truly New Zealand festive season.

This is a re-jacketed Limited Edition of the children's book originally published in 2003.
