This was my favourite McDonalds burger. I had originally stuck to Cheeseburgers and Big Macs, but as is inevitable, I got bored of those, and started trying out other burgers. I usually prefer chicken burgers as they have less oils than beef burgers, but McDonalds is lacking in a chicken burger with a proper chicken texture.

The Boss burger, however is a burger that was full of oil, but I loved it regardless. The Kaiser bun made a mess too, but that was irrelevant. I had finally found a burger, that had reasonably sized beef patties, and it had two of them in the one burger! Most McDonalds burger patties seem to have a very similar flavour and texture, but the Boss burger pattie was something different. it had proper texture.

The fact that it was oily, was overpowered by the onions. Cut into chunks, instead of being finely minced, the onions provide a stronger flavour, that cuts through what would otherwise be an ordinary burger. The tomato, well I'd remove that, because I never enjoy tomato in my burgers, and the lettuce was barely noticeable. The only things that were important, were the oily texture of the meat, the smooth texture of the cheese, and the acidity of the onions that combined the burger beautifully.

But its gone now, and no Macca's burgers have come close to replacing it.

The Boss Burger was my ultimate favourite combo to choose back in the the day when it was available at McDonald's. I would always look forward to getting to McDonald's just so I could order the delicious Boss Burger combo. The huge double layer of meat patty and the Kaiser bun was what made the Boss burger the best burger on the menu in my honest opinion.

I wish that McDonald's would bring back the Boss burger. The Boss burger was bigger in size, it offered more fillings, and with 2 slices of cheese it was the perfect burger. Granted any McDonald's burger with lettuce was never a good sign as the lettuce would always be a more brownish colour than a green one but was long as you don't open the burger to investigates it's contents you would be none the wiser!

To the people out there who say that the Boss burger was a poor cousin to the classic Kiwi burger, and McDonald's took out the egg etc. and the Boss burger was born well I say a big thank you as I prefer a burger without the egg in it anyways! I say it was a huge improvement!!

I miss the Boss burger Sad Icon But I am super glad that McDonald's has improved their burgers over the years and now a similar burger to the Boss burger can be made on the 'have it your way menu' option available now-a days.

Once upon a time, in a land not too far distant, someone said "We need a REAL burger, suited to the NZ market. It will have all the things that make Kiwi tasebuds dance with delight. It will have enough of all things to satisfy the meanest hunger. It will be reasonably priced, and will appeal to anyone with an appitite."

And so was born McDonald's Kiwi Burger, and it's close cousin, the Mega Feast (or the McLomu Burger as it was once jokingly called.)

The Boss Burger is the poor cousin to these fine towers of munch, and it has REPLACED them! This HAS to be possibly the DUMBEST marketing move McDonalds have ever made in New Zealand. They have INCREASED the price and DECREASED the content!

When questioned, one staff member said (with an obvious look of "Oh hell! What do I tell this guy?!") "Well, erm, you see, they've taken out the egg and the beetroot, and, umm, added an extra meat pattie in. It's our answer to Burger King's MeatBurgers, like the triple-decker cheeseburger thing. So, do you want one or not... sir." (Just a novice I think. I did not detect any 'attitude', just a lot of confusion.)

So I ordered one, snapped a quick pic for the site, and started to munch. May as well see if this really IS a suitable replacement for my favourite burger (The Kiwiburger) - alas, it was not. It was indeed a poor replacement. Bland taste, not at all filling, and lacking the 'X-factor' entirely.

Overall, I would have to say that if it weren't for their Tuna Salad I wouldn't bother going back from now on. As it is, they have lost a good 80% of my business with this single move.
