3DNA Desktop product reviews

3DNA Corp. develops and markets 3D user interfaces for personal computers and consumer electronics. The company's flagship product, the 3DNA Desktop makes it easier, faster, and more fun to use PCs and the Internet.

Just as Windows introduced a more intuitive interface to the 1D DOS command line, the 3DNA Desktop dramatically improves the computing experience by taking advantage of the benefits of 3D. We provide easier ways to organize files, folders, and applications as well as provide unique capabilities that are not possible in a 2D Windows interface such as the ability to speed-surf dozens of websites at a time. We also enhance the overall user experience by providing unlimited customization possibilities, integrated 3D games, and an ever-growing collection of great-looking Add-on Worlds.

Since the 3DNA Desktop does not replace Windows, the Start Menu, or the Task Bar, users can easily use the new 3D interface immediately. The movement and navigation within a 3DNA Desktop is identical to a 3D video game and is also fully customizable by the user.

Many years ago, I saw Castle Wolfenstein for the first time. It impressed me greatly. At that stage, I used a humble Commodore Amiga 500 running AmigaOS v1.2. So GUI's were no stranger to me, DOS was called Shell, and I see 2d imagery mapped onto a 3d environment. It made me dream.

Dream of a 3d user interface, where files and icons were laid out like something from VR in a William Gibson novel. And finally, almost a decade later, I find something that approaches my dream GUI and is not only stable enough to be worth investigating, but make full use of the multimedia features we use daily.

With a super-high level of customisation, fitted together with an extremely impressive array of tools, features and functionality, this COULD replace the 2d Windows environment, should you want to go fully immersive.

With the ability to 're-skin' worlds, textures, sky-features, icons, decoration and all, this is one POWERFUL system engine. Throw into that the upcoming 3DNA Portal communal server, and you are looking at the new doorway to the next level of Cyber.

Still a little kludgy to navigate within, but once you have the hang of the interface it becomes wonderful to use. They even include various interactive 3d games as well, just to cater to the tyre-kicker market.

Overall, this is one system I plan to keep close tabs on. I think something like this makes a home connection on an ADSL line worth considering, if for nothing else than the high-speed multi-surfing abilities.
