E8500 Intel Core2 Duo Processor product reviews

The Intel E8500 chipset is the highest performance, most scalable platform offering in the 64-bit Intel Xeon processor family. Intel's sixth-generation four-way MP platform is architected for dual-core CPUs, and it is also compatible with Intel's current single-core processors, giving it an enhanced lifespan and helping to lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

In addition, the Intel E8500 chipset offers enhanced performance, increased bandwidth, and greater flexibility, manageability, and I/O integration than Intel's previous generation MP chipsets. Plus, it is available in a variety of configurations suitable for a wide range of price points and application environments.

Features include:
    •  Core Voltage: 1.15v +/- 0.2v
    •  Processing Freq: 3.16GHz
    •  Clock Multi: 9.5x
    •  FSB: 1333 MHz
    •  Cache: 6mb L2
    •  TDP: 65w draw

When playing video with this I was able to play a high quality set of blueray video and the cpu managed to handle the workload with out stuttering. It's also very fast at openning programs.

This 45nm cpu remains very cool no matter what I throw at it. I had it overclocked to 4.3ghz and still remained under 30*C idle and under 55*C load at 1.38vcore using 3rd party cooling.

The E8500 does not provide many features compared to its much cheaper brother the E8400, the only difference between the two is ~$100 and a x1 multiplyer which in overclock situations equates to about an extra 300-400mhz (0.3-0.4ghz)

The FSB wall on the sample of the E8500 was 530fsb how ever your mileage may vary.

I found the biggest turn off is the lack of extra features to justify the higher price.
