I have been loving trying the Kaweka range for my work lunches this winter. Today was no exception. It was a very chilly day. By lunchtime my hands were still really cold, despite the air-conditioning. I was pleased that I bought my lunch because then I didn't need to go outside again.
I saw this flavour at the supermarket yesterday and it was the only one left on the shelf. I could tell it was a pretty popular one. I do love a good Thai curry. They are often more a coconut and chilli curry. The heat coming towards the end of the mouthful. So you get the creamy taste of the coconut, and you can taste the delicious spices before the heat actually hits you. This is served with Jasmine rice too, which is one of my favourites because of its aromatic quality.
Inside my box I had two pouches of rice and a pouch of the Thai chicken. I microwaved all three for two minutes and let it rest for a minute. I heaped the contents onto a plate. The look of the curry was a little grey, but the smell was absolutely delicious. The first taste had that familiar Thai curry taste but the heat was very mild. This might disappoint some who like their Thai curries HOT. But for me, it was perfection. The chicken was a little dry, but the rest of the meal more than made up for that. Another great meal for one from Kaweka.
I love a good chicken curry meal, and this new addition to the Kaweka is no exception.
Having previously enjoyed the Thai Chicken Curry from Kaweka I knew I was in for a great taste experience and I was not wrong at all.
The Thai Curry sauce was once again superb and creamy, and not too mild. The chicken was just as tender as it always is with these Kaweka meals. The rice was a great addition and just fleshed it out to be a nourishing and tasteful meal for 1.
Way to go Kaweka, you've done it again
By far my favourite from Kaweka's Meal-For-1 range. I was really impressed by the smooth creaminess and full flavour of the sauce, the chunks of chicken were large and tender, and the spices were right there in your face without being so strong as to overpower even the most sensitive tastebuds.
The only slight drawback I found was that the rice was a little starchy and gluggy, and needed a bit of breaking up before I poured the curry over the top, but forgiving this one tiny hiccup the meal was so delightful I had to go out and 'accidentally' drop a few of them into the shopping basket on the grocery run that afternoon.
Really nice, an excellent addition to the range, and glad to see this one evolving into a new format. A few more of the various flavours would do well to follow suit.
I was delighted when I discovered Kaweka had created a new range of meals for one. The addition of a pouch of rice is a fantastic idea! Everything you need for a great meal is now included in the pack.
I was really looking forward to trying the Thai Chicken Curry meal for one, as I love coconut cream curries.
I microwaved the Thai Chicken meal kit for two minutes. It smelt wonderful as it neared it's cooking time.
The rice went onto the plate first - lots of it too, and on top went the Thai Chicken curry.
The rice was perfect, fluffy, perfectly cooked and light. I was really impressed with this curry - there was plenty of chicken, nice big chunks. It looked really great. Taste? It tasted amazing! The coconut cream rounded the flavour off beautifully. I can honestly say I absolutely loved this. Definitely my favourite of the range.
Again, even though I tried to force the last mouthfuls in because it tasted so good, I couldn't finish the whole meal.
I will definitely be buying some more of these. YUM!
Having quite enjoyed the Thai Chicken Curry before, but finding the pre-made Risottos to be not really to my tastes, I wasn't sure what to expect from this offering... but after popping the box and discovering that the rice and meat were in separate pouches, leaving me with the choice of using the rice, or substituting pasta or mashed potato, or... whatever... well, that really brighten my outlook right away!
After much debate, I decided to go with the rice, but to add a touch of my own... so after tearing the recommended vent in the top of the bag, I squeezed some garlic butter in on top of the rice, and then, after clamping the top of the bag shut using a magic bag lock, gave it a good massage around... not only would that help break the rice up, but would also add a delightful flavour. (You could use a herb butter if you wanted, but you may need to consider the spices in the curry when you choose.)
2 minutes in the nukebox, pour the rice out on to the plate, then pour the chicken curry over the top... the smell was delightful! I was getting a full drool on just looking at it, with the aroma wafting around and filling the kitchen... so now the taste test... delightful! all the flavour of the curry I had enjoyed before, with some extra texture from the rice and zing from the garlic butter I added.
The balance of rice-to-sauce ratio is perfect, with enough rice to soak up all the liquid sauce, but not so much as to leave plain rice behind after all the flavoursome stuff is gone.
Overall, probably my most favourite of the three meal-for-1's, and one I plan to keep a few of in the pantry for those times when a last-minute dinner is required.
