I am a secure fan of the heavier end of the sci-fi genre. The heavier the sci, the happier I am. So for me, this was a bit of light reading while sitting on the bus, and to be honest, it's a bit of a relief to drift along with the softer side of sci-fi.

The story is reasonably well defined, the characters are quite plausible, even if the story setting is a little unbelievable in places. I was particularly taken with the descriptions of Agent Six in action, and the antics of the mysterious 'guardian angel' who turns up to save his butt in times of extreme danger.

I haven't read the prequel, The Lab, and I find myself wishing that I had. Though this booko fills in many gaps with flashbacks and inner-monologues, there are still some facets of the story that are left blank, relying on knowledge gleaned from the previous book.

Overall, a really nifty story, and an impressive offering from a 21 year old buddy screenwriter... Jack has a bright future ahead of him if he sticks with it. I was also quite impressed with the rather nasty twist at the end... leaving the story ripe for a third book.
