Pedal Pushers Cyclery Limited had its inception in a small Rangitikei Street store in 1976 under the guidance of Frank Clavis and Stuart Watts. Their philosophy was to offer cyclists more choice at a fair price. A philosophy that still exists today under Garry Buys' ownership.
Garry has developed a talent for frame building. The success of his meticulously handcrafted and finished Vincolo frames were testimony to his ability and were endorsed by some of New Zealand's leading cyclists of the day (Anthony Cuff, Michael McRedmond and Nathan Dahlberg).
Unquestionably - Pedal Pushers offers its clients New Zealand's largest selection of frames and accessories and arguably the best advice and service- This Warranty Booklet is testimony to Garry and his team's commitment to 'making quality cycling accessible to everyone'.
In 1994 Pedal Pushers won the Inaugural Award for 'New Zealand's Best Bike Shop', came runner-up in 1995 and repeated their '94 triumph by winning again in 1996 and also in 1997. Pedal Pushers high profile 'Cycling Top and Shorts' won a very prestigious 'Pride in Print New Zealand' Gold Medal award for design and screen-printing in 1996.
In 2004 Garry and the Team moved into Ferguson Street to become New Zealand's finest purpose-built Bike Shop with some 900sqm of high profile Retail & Workshop space.

I was looking around for a Bike for my son whom is 4 years old, got to Pedal Pushers, and I ended up buying a 16 inch BMX. They have a huge selection and are a reasonable price, but this is brand dependant. From when I walked into the store, it was perfectly laid out and I received a welcoming greeting from a sales person, although this is their job. The sales person was willing to help, and went beyond expectations.
Got a good deal on a bike and also had the benefit of storing till Christmas, and paying off over this time. The bike came assemble with no additional cost for the assembly. With the great service from the Sales person, I also received a free year of servicing. My son loves his bike so much and after the service I received from this store, I will always go back there. I recommend them to my family, and the store has never let me down. They also offer a layby option, which is really handy for some people.
Visited here last xmas, just looking and ended up buying a bike, lol. Our son was turning 6 and he wanted a bike. We were talking the the Lovely, helpful sales guy and he gave us info and left us for a bit. After looking at some of the bikes he had suggested, he came to see how we were getting on. I loved the fact we were taken care of, then left for a bit. Nothing worse than having a sales assistant following u around!! In the end, due to all the expert info and great service, we brought a bike that will last our son for ages!!! I love that fact they do a service check on the bike and tighten bits i never knew needed tightning, after 6 months and they do this for FREE. Loved the products, service, the price and the after sales care!! Keep it u guys
A while ago I bought an el-cheapo some-assembly-required cycle from a local department store. That bike stayed in it's box for close on 6 months sitting in the back room collecting dust, but the recent good weather, and a sudden stimulus to get back into cycling and fitness in general, caused me to rip it out and slap it together, despite a total lack of assembly instructions. That would explain a few things actually, but I'll get to that.
Figuring this would be a great way to 'Mystery Shopper' a bike shop, I put the bike together with, what I thought was only a few minor faults... such as not tightening the handlebars clamp fully, and having the seat set lower than would best suit a rider of my stocky stature, plus brakepads that rubbed the rims a bit. I wheeled the bike into the spacious, impressively loaded store, and down the back to the workshop counter.
"Hey there, I think this bike needs a bit of work. It's a kitset, but it just doesn't run smooth. Could you give it a once over please?" "Sure thing mate. Let's start with the obvious stuff... are you sick of smacking your toes when you turn corners? Because you've put the front forks on back to front!" As I started to blush madly, he proceeded to list out a whole raft of other 'obvious' faults and glitches... which, apart from reminding me why I never went for Engineering as a career, showed me clearly that this guy knew his stuff!
So, I decided to throw a curveball at him, and tried to convince him I needed the bike back in a major hurry... I wanted to see what method of putting me off he would use... after all, they had a fully-booked workshop, all the rigs had bikes in them, and quite a queue still to do. To my utter amazement, he thought about it for a few moments, shuffled the work cards, and said that if I didn't mind giving him a few hours, he could have it ready for me after lunch! I was totally impressed.
So, wandering out of the shop somewhat shellshocked, I returned at the appointed hour, expecting to be told "Well, I got a bit backlogged, sorry mate..." or somesuch, but no, there was my bike all tuned and tightened, right way round, and ready to ride.
Overall, with a bill to pay of a mere $25, and such stunning service, including the offer of a free tune-up as the brake and gear-change cables stretch, I walked out fully satisfied. I have even been back to order some upgraded parts from their stunning range of accessories, such as a better crank assembly, a more comfortable seat, and probably some better brakepads shortly. Well done guys, you really do offer the ultimate cycle service.
