My very first curry came from this place, upon trying it, I fell in love. I have now become a HUGE Butter Chicken Fan. It's hard to find a great Indian place, and this place is no longer one.
It may still have an "A" rating from the Palmerston North City Council but the quality of the meat has deteriorated, the flavour has gotten worse, the size of the dishes has gotten smaller and they have changed the takeaway packaging from Plastic to Polystyrene. They keep putting up the price. Another thing that I do not like seeing, is all the curries in a buffet setting. It just means that the curry is not made fresh.
I do have to say that the new shop in the new food court is in a good location, great layout, and fantastic design. The Staff are friendly but are very quick in trying to get to the next order.

I love this place. And it just got even better!!
I noticed over the weekend they now are displaying an 'A' food grade rating. For those not in the know about the food grade ratings, food outlets are graded with a letter from A-E in conjunction with how clean and hygenic the store is and safe food practices, etc. 'A' is the highest rating a food outlet can achieve. Well Done Shamiana!
Unfortunately just one little niggle. I decided to try a poppadum with my korma instead of my usual naan. Ugh, I wish I didn't. The poppadums are saltier than the Dead Sea. Really inedible. Will stick to naans in future.

after reading the review about the butter chicken i simply had to try it. it was everything they said it would be. the smooth taste, the total lack of throat-ripping burn, the tender chicken chunks, it was all good. if you want to try a great feed at a reasonable price i would say give these guys a shot.

Come one come all! Being the Butter Chicken self-professed guru that I am, I have found Shamiana Butter Chicken to be the second best place that I have tasted in the whole of Aotearoa (NZ). With it only marginally loosing by a nose to Manakau Foodcourt because of the price.
Since the rich creamy flavour of Shamiana Butter Chicken first did the bossanova with my tastebuds I have found it has continued to bring it to the table night in and night out.
I praise them so much because of the fact that in every way they have met my needs. Firstly with the blue-note $10 deal, I found that it was more than enough value for money that any man could ask for. Secondly, usually having only a small amount of time to pop out and getting something to eat, I found them pretty quick with the old scoop, pour-n-pay system, and finally the taste as I mentioned above is second to none.
So all and all I wouldn't go anywhere else in Palmy town to get a tasty and cheap Indian Meal.
Solid.
P.S Oh yeah they also have other stuff as well. Chicken Korma etc! oops almost forgot.

For a change of pace, I decided to try some Chicken Korma from Shamiana. As I approached the counter I noticed their sign for a curry and rice, plus a naan bread and a can of Coke for only $10.00.
So, after having a browse I confirmed my first choice and went for the Chicken Korma. Tray piled to the edges, I turned to find a table. Now, of all the foods you can buy in the foodcourt, the curry bowls would have to be the most risky to carry in a crowded venue such as the Foodcourt.
Once I had safely made my way through the rat's nest of tables and chairs, and moving bodies, I was able to perch at a table by the window and dish it up.
Spread rice, dish curry over the rice, grab a chunk of naan and semi-roll it into a halfpipe, load it up with rice-&-curry, and eat taco-style.
Overall, very tasty indeed! Delish! I was surprised at just how full I was by the end. A most stomach-filling feed at a very wallet-filling price.
