Product reviews...
We are big fans of Aioli. Usually, our aioli comes in a glass jar. it was surprising to have it in a squeezy (kid-style) dispenser. I can totally see the efficiency of this but it did make it seem like a kids' snack in the fridge. I liked that this meant you got it all out but you had to guess how much "dip" you would need each time. I tend to use a container and dip into it rather than swirl my aioli on top of things (like chips). I can see this dispenser being more hygiene friendly and great for a house with lots of people.
I liked the smell of it garlicky but not too garlicky for me. The texture was a tiny bit smoother/runnier than I was expecting to start with, but we got the hang of it. Again, it was better for dispensing on food but not for dipping into.
We tried it with chips - good but nothing amazing. We tried spreading on burgers and that was a great success and probably where I felt the product fitted best. So, if you like to spread your aioli this is a fantastic choice. We also tried it on crackers which wasn't quite ideal but I think that might have been a bad choice on our part. I found it good with potato in a salad-type pasta dish which meant I didn't need to add extra garlic. The packaging was a bit cheesy and didn't really indicate the quality of the product which was pretty good in my opinion.
The taste was ideal, smooth and garlicky with not too much aftertaste. I liked the texture and the smell which made you aware this wasn't just another mayonnaise. I would get this in for picnics and group functions where you are planning to entertain a lot of people. I wouldn't show people the packet though personally.
In this household we tend to go through a large amount of aioli, whether this is used in salads, dipping fries or vegetables into as a snack, or even just spreading on the bread of a sandwich. Recently we have just been sticking to buying our regular brand of aioli as we love the taste, however, when I saw there was a Garlic Aioli from Rossty Foods available to review I jumped at the chance to request it, thankfully I was successful with my request.
In my opinion this pouch of aioli is super cute, it is 100g in size so perfect hand-sized, has cartoon garlic on the front, bright and vibrant colours on the packaging, and of course the handy resealable squeezy pouch design, this product must be refrigerated after being opened. The brand Rossty is a New Zealand business and the product is made with both local and imported ingredients, I see in their range they also have available a Tom Sauce and a Tartare Sauce.
The packaging was easy to open and once the lid was removed the smell of garlic was undeniable, I had decided to have the product on a sandwich as my first test, I squeezed about a teaspoon amount onto the bread and was pleased to see the consistency was smooth, the aioli itself was not runny but also not overly thick. This product spread well onto the bread and I decided to team it with some tuna, my first bite I thought that the aioli was quite strong, however I think that was maybe because I had become so accustomed to my usual brand, after more bites the flavour was delicious and the garlic flavour well balanced.
Using this size package of aioli for small things like sandwiches and a small serving to have with fries would be good, however with the current size I would need a couple to make my salads, such as potato salad, broccoli salad, or pasta salad, as we like them creamy and not dry. I would love to see if the company will produce the product in a larger size suitable for that use, and I look forward to trying more of their products in the future!
