Accusation: A Wife's Story product reviews

ACCUSATION is Mary Fielding's account of a nightmare that begins one ordinary evening with a knock at her front door. Minutes later three police officers lead away her husband Steve. Later that night he is charged on two counts of indecency. What is his wife and mother of his two daughters to believe? And which is worse: that her husband is guilty as charged, or that an innocent man is subjected to such on-going anguish?

After a two-and-a-half year battle which threatens the Fielding's emotional and economic survival, Steve is spat out of a system that Mary now sees as deeply flawed, shockingly unjust. It's easy to believe in justice, to trust police to investigate and judges to deliver sound verdicts, that is, until someone in your family is arrested, charged and tried. Then that belief can be shattered forever.

I am the kind of person who enjoys reading true stories , it is great when the story is told in a good easy to read way with no flowery writing. The story was easy to read and interesting , I spend most the story wondering what would happen next and how Steve would prove his innocence. The book made it rather obvious that he was innocent and that the unbelievable happened, the police did a rather shocking job of investigating since they were that sure he was guilty. I would like to have known what really happened but the story concentrated on the court case and how Mary dealt with everything. There was some parts that were difficult to read due to the terminology used, you would need to understand the appeals process and the legal grounds for an appeal.

I managed to read the book in an afternoon as it was interesting enough to have me wanting to know how they proved his innocence and who actually did the crime. The book does show that the legal system is not as great as it should be and it was really easy to see why Mary's faith in the system was shaken and eventually broken.

I am glad I took the chance to read the story but I am not sure I would read it again as there were a lot of unanswered questions but that is just my curiosity wanting to know how things got done and why and I know that sometimes you just have to have unanswered questions . I definitely don't recommend the book for young readers.

Product image for Elephant Joe is a KnightOh, no! The Dark Knight has stolen the King's crown. Who can rescue it? Elephant Joe can! (And his trusty sidekick, Zebra Pete, of course.)

But there's an unexpected twist in this tale... a damsel in distress! There'll be lots of jousting and heroics before it's time for tea...
