Phase 10 product reviews

Phase 10 Card Game: From the makers of UNO comes a rummy-type card game with a challenging and exciting twist.

The object of the game is to be the first player to complete 10 phases ranging from two sets of three, one run of seven, seven cards of one color, and more.

The twist is that each phase to be completed is specific for each hand dealt. Those who complete the phase advance to the next, but those that dont must try again.

I bought myself a copy of Phase 10 when on sale and I had been playing the app for it on my phone for a few months. I really liked the concept of this game, in that each round had a different goal and if you didn't meet the requirements you had to play it again and hope that the other players don't get too far ahead. Going from the app to the card game was slightly disappointing as the card game comes with just one set of ten phases, whereas the app has a multitude of different phases. The game can get a bit frustrating if you run into bad luck and end up a few hands behind the other players, you can catch up, but half of that is luck of the draw. This is also a long game, a friend of mine and I average 45 minutes and that's just two players.

I got tired of the set phases provided so did some googling. The main suggestion was that you roll a dice at the start of a round to determine which phase you would be attempting, another was to look at your cards and then select which phase to aim for (in both cases writing this down for all to see, so you can't change halfway) I took it a step further and created around 30 different set of 10 phases for my friend and I to play, which meant that we didn't get bored with it as quickly as we may have. This is a fun card game but not one that works for quick plays and it definitely needed new options for play. Having added my own phases to this now, it is a far more enjoyable game and I have had to buy a second pack in preparation of replacing our current set.

Product image for Brikks Brikks can be viewed as tabletop Tetris, with each player trying to place falling blocks into their grid to score the most points.

To start the game, each player draws a different quadromino at the bottom of their individual game sheet. On a turn, the active player rolls two dice - a colored d6 and a numbered d4 - then optionally rolls both dice again. The two dice determine which specific quadromino - that is, which colored shape and ... more...
