The world needed a hero, we got a hedgehog.
Powered with incredible speed, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, aka The Blue Blur, embraces his new home on Earth. That is, until he accidentally knocks out the power grid and sparks the attention of super-uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Now it's super-villain vs. super-sonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic's power for world domination. Sonic teams up with The Donut Lord aka Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), to save the planet in this action-packed adventure that's fun for the whole family.

I know who Sonic is but I'm not that big a fan but my boys are and they begged to be able to see it in the cinemas but then lockdown happened so when I got the chance to review this movie I thought this would be a perfect way to spend some time with the kids.
First I'm not a fan of Jim Carrey as I find that he starts out funny but then he "overacts" and tries to be even funnier until he goes so far it is not funny any more. I never realised that Jim Carrey was in the movie but once I did realise it didn't spoil the movie, I was incredibly happy when things went against Jim's character.
I loved the special effects especially the lightning that appears when Sonic is feeling very emotional and some of the comedy that happens around those times. I would almost watch the movie again just for the special effects. I really like how Sonic gets help from "The Donut Lord", one of the funniest moments in the entire movie was the way the character reacted when he first noticed Sonic.
The storyline is a bit much, I know that Sonic is a game and that it is incredibly popular. I like how the movie used some of the iconic game moves, it is almost believable that an alien hedgehog can come and live on earth totally undetected for years. I think that some of the reason I didn't enjoy the story as much as I could was due to my dislike of Jim Carrey, he played his part well but the comedy was too over the top that it was not funny anymore.
I wouldn't watch this movie again but I know that my boys will as they both said that they loved it. I would recommend this to younger viewers who will accept what they see on the screen as possible.
